It does seem a remarkably half-arsed attempt at flogging vehicles doesn't it? Flog them from a partially submerged field that no-one can actually get to. Genius...

I’m not due to the terrible access - even the auctioneer has advised a 4WD vehicle? It’s up a crappy farm track IIRC.

You've got legs, get a pair of wellies and walk. Think of the chodpertunities!

Are these vehicles no reserve? Otherwise the auctioneer will just be leaving most stuff unsold. The banger boys will go for this lot perhaps which is probably where most interest will come from?

Getting the vehicles away will be a major pain.

Wonder why March - Sumner wd have got a better result.

My guess they have the Environment Agency enforcing here. Just a guess.

Having been to this kind of thing in the past most stuff is not worth the considerable cost unless you have access to a trailer etc.

I went to this. It was good.

A few dry days meant that it really wasn't that muddy. I managed about 10mins of the video because the blokes were irritating, but the conditions were nothing like as bad as they made out, and all dry and pretty firm, really.

The cars were like they are in the pics - some good for spares only (to my mind) but plenty worth restoring and ideal if that's what you wanted to do. Extracting was no problem - the trackways to the cars were either hardstanding or covered in bark chips, and they had a couple of Loadalls there to help pull stuff out. All of it was only recently moved to that field anyway - much of it had clearly been driven in - so no great issues.

Prices were OK, I thought. No huge bargains, but not silly money either. No reserve on anything, so it made what it made. It's hard to value stuff unless you know the market, but the S2 Land Rovers there went for exactly what I thought they might, if not slightly towards the lower end. A well written ad would see them sell for £3-500 more on Ebay.

So, that's my experience - ask and I'll see if I can remember about any specific cars!

What did the GT6 go for?

You'll need to check the results - I didn't see it go through.

It was actually a bit rough. Plenty of filler and naughtiness around the roof / screen interface, plus a good bit of wag in the bonnet and other areas around the shell. The pics flatter it - it was actually a rather dog-eared condition 2 car, which from 20 paces looked really decent. I didn't inspect any more thoroughly than that, but my finger in the air bid would have been £4-5kish.

Does that help?

eta just looked and it went for £5400. I should do this for a living! 54 is not bad, I'd say, and given that a minter is 10-15 I'd say you'd be OK at that money.

Thanks for finding out! GT6s are going for such strong money now. Arguably better than having money in the bank.

No worries - hope that satisfies your curiosity! I didn't see interior or sills but don't suppose they were any different.

Don't forget the 10% + VAT buyer's premium, which takes the price up to £6k. I actually think you could buy one in similar condition from Ebay for about that, Like I say, fair prices but not especially bargainous.

The GS was scrap. Really, really rotten and not something I'd have thought was worth restoring. Worse than the pics made out. Shame really. Also had the duller normal dials on the interior.

The 504 estate was solid and needed pretty basic stuff to get back on the road. Hand painted black, which all needed stripping off, but didn't look especially rotten. 7 seater too, with the 3rd row intact and a really decent interior generally. Definitely worth £480. Given the lowish value of good ones, probably not something you'd make any £ on, but a straightforward restoration to have a very rare and useful estate.

The little 104 needed a lot of work but wasn't beyond saving IMO. £70 really was bugger all - like I say, not much love for 'our' sort of cars!

As a kid of the '70s, I have to admit I had a good laugh at that one.

It was a scruffy condition 2 car, really - plenty of amateurish paintwork, bits of optimistic filler and rust bubbling in the usual places but a tidy interior with a full dashboard of dials n stuff. I have no idea what Marinas go for, and they obviously have a following, but even I can't look at that and find it remotely desirable. Sorry, I just hate them!

Didn't see that one go through, but the Escorts were making very strong money so could well be genuine.

The venue was next to the Capri owners club (yes, they actually have a house!) so there were plenty of Ford lickers around. I have no idea re Escort value, but rotten old rubbish we were happily crashing and chopping up 30 years ago now seems to fetch serious cash. Again, not my taste, but I wish I'd hoarded a field of Mk2 Escorts!

The DAFs were lovely, the dark brown one especially so.

I'd have happily snapped them up.

That brown DAF has done well; it sold for only £200 from Stondon in 2016 but made £520 today. Not a lot of money appears to have been made though and most cars were in the £200-300 range. Most of the parts went very cheap and a full set of XJ6 seats for a tenner has got to be a bargain.

Indeed. The random piles of parts were good value, if they contained something you wanted.

I'm just not in the market for a resto project right now - if I had been then I could definitely have come away with something good today.

Some of the lots such at the Spitfire (Lot 180) were less good. The Spit was very rough, and made £550, so £600 odd in commission. All the later bids were internet ones, by people who presumably hadn't seen it. It ran out of puff in the room at £300ish - again I would have thought you could do better on the net. That was rare though - most lots went for very fair money.

As far as I remember the cooking Escorts were pretty rough, although I didn't look that closely at them as they're not really my thing.

I agree - there were a few A30/5's which went for buttons and seem generally unloved. I could very happily have filled a couple of trailers with these kind of cars to tinker with!

Cor the Ambassador and the Princess went quite cheap! I’d have had them, the CX or the Visa at those prices!

A few fairly good prices all told. The main reason I couldn’t go was that my parents were visiting, then they decided last minute not to come. Probably best I didn’t attend or my bank balance would have been even worse than it is as I have no self control in situations where there are cars I’ve always wanted (Ambassadors, Princess, CX, Visa) for not much cash...

Bonjour, that would be me, it was rude not to at that price, especially with the sunroof it has. Just need to remove the awful black paint and it should be good to go?

There are several CX owners on here including me, I wonder if we could get them all running at the same time!
