Gompo
Where in London is good for spots?.Umm, nowhere especially, there's tat everywhere! - Most of these were in a small-ish area of SE London (Forest Hill, Dulwich, Catford). South London in general is quite good but you still get great spots north of the river. I wouldnt have picked out Camden to be honest, and there's too many annoying pricks around there to get in the way...Just keep your wits about you and you'll get some great spots. brammy777
Ah you see if you go to camden on the underground and just head left and then go up the roads when you see houses, theres loads of stuff, im going to get that MKV cortina and DS this sunday, im determined.Avoid the market like the plague, I used to go (embarrasingly) but its just wank now. keef
A nice selection! You know it never ceases to amaze me at the cars still around, despite things like the scrapage scheme.I've left a couple of comments/invites on your photobucket account. Guest
Gompo wrote:This is the coolest car I've seen in ages, I'd definitely want this on my drive Isn't this one of those super-rare 123GT's?It could be, but my money's more on it being a 122S. They had the same B18 engine as the 123 GT but with a different cam and lower compression pistons. It was pretty unusual for a 123GT to come with a Webasto sunroof as well which makes me think it's a 122S. 123GTs were produced in late '66 but this car was registered in April. Sunroofs are rare on Amazons because of the curvature of the roof. The Webasto conversions were factory approved and full length fabric jobs (but fitted by the dealer) as were the Golde steel roofs that my car has. In 1966 there wasn't such a thing as a 2 door 121, but later on when the B20 engined cars were produced from '68 onwards there was. The wing badge would say 121 but the V5 would say 131. The B20 122S' produced from '68-70 would have a '122S' badge on both wings but were known internally as 132s. The 122S and 123GTs had badges on both wings. Pleb spec machines like the 121 and Favorit (not a UK model, but a 2 door with a non synchro on first 3 speed box) had a badge on the NS or nowt at all. It's definitely a non standard colour as well, but that's probably obvious. Volvo's numbering system is a mess at the best of times. That car is '66 so it'll have the same single trailing arms as my car and the same gearbox. It may or may not have an overdrive (if it will it'll be a D rather than a J type) - I'd have to see the dashboard to be certain. 123GTs normally had a special boot badge in the bottom left corner, as well as driving lamps that were mounted outboard of the front overriders. They also had a pod mounted rev counter, a special 16" three spoke steering wheel and a SEV Marchal alternator on the opposite side of the block to the usual dynamo of the period. A lot of the 1500 that came to the UK have been stripped of their accessories to go on lowlier models. Some of the continental 123GTs had 5.5" steel wheels but our market didn't get them. The OEM Lemmerz \ Kronprinz steels in the wider width are worth £££ now on eBay, as are the dashtops, revcounters and steering wheels. You can buy alternator conversion plates that will take a later 140 unit if the block has the ribbing for it. My car hasn't got them but the block I picked up in Battersea has. 123GTs are worth coin compared to other Amazon models. Even rough ones without MOTs are £1500 minimum. Other Amazon models can be picked up as runners for £500 upwards. My 121 (which was literally frag feed from the C pillar back but had an MOT) was £600, and a rough 122S with ticket would be £800 or so. That one is sprayed a horrible colour but is taxed into next year (exempt of course) and depending on whether it has OD or not plus the roof would probably go for £950 ish to the right person, mainly because of the roof. A minter (in the proper sense of the word) would be nudging 10 large, although the one on sale at the NEC Classic had the wrong bits on it and was on sale for 13 grand which was taking the piss. It had the wrong driving lights (potentially £250 - £300 for the right ones), had some crap brightwork and a non functioning rev counter. If you see it again, try and get a shot of the badge on the wings and at the front, to see if it's got the fogs and the 'correct' grilles on it. Guest
I've got one of those Volvo pod Rev counters.........guess I'll have to get it on E-Bay in the new year Like this? If you have the counter with uncut wiring and a decent pod, it'll make between £85-100 on the bay. Does it have a plastic or chrome effect bezel? Also the counters with increments 10, 20, 30 etc are worth more than the ones going up singly i.e. 1, 2, 3 etc. God knows why. Mine was £58 but it needs refurbishing, and they have to be overhauled if you want to use one of those electronic ignition packs that does away with the points. As I'm shit at setting points, I'm buying a set and having my 'counter upgraded to cope. It could be, butWOW: that's a big anorak you have! LOLAye, it keeps me warm. It says 'Castrol GTX' on the back, and I wear it for funerals. I keep my geek tendencies to myself
whitevanman
yup just like that, chrome bezel and 10, 20 etc, think the wires may have been cut though, I'll dig it out this weekend I think

pogweasel
Hey, I saw this Escort today FO REEL, it now sports a fetching 'bin bag' rear window and is superbly shabby. I got a pic of sorts but it's a bit crap & distant as I was driving at the time.
Gompo
Did you see it parked up or moving? I am thinking about doing some shite revisited so this will be included, when I get a new camera. He's been driving around with the rear window like that since atleast before X-mas. pogweasel
I'm doing surveys on the railway for re-cabling & re-signalling from the east side of worksop through to gainsborough, so retford is sort of in the middle of that. It's a pain in the arse though as there's a red-zone restriction just west of the low-level station and the next nearest access I can use is at rushey sidings level crossing, which is fricking miles away. Gompo
Ok, time for more old spots. I've not got another camera sorted so hopefully I can add some more recent spots soon. Anyway: Not much of a fan but worth posting I suppose Nice duo. Nice driveway Come out from there! As cool as hidden shite is, there's something to be said about having your shite out in the face of the people. Lidl carpark NB this is an old pic, I doubt it's for sale now! I did post it up here when it was 'fresh' though Apparently this might not be what it says on the tin A wee beauty.. I'm guessing these BMWs are owned by the same person:Loving the rear quarter. Gompo
Ok, a break from my out of date spots, of which there's a few more to come.I went to the Thoresby Classic Car Show last weekend, here is a selection of pics. Nothing particularly exciting but some nice cars all the same. Lots of cars on show, a lot I didnt photograph as they were either de rigour or didnt interest me (a lot of pre 1960s stuff, sorry) I had a few problems uploading, so the odd car may appear twice out of order. Replica ObviouslyThe wheel trims (are they off something else?) and the old school fogs stood out on this:'10 years time these might look nice.. Still quite sleek compared with todays blobs. This Capri stood out as looking in great condition, but shit:Not a piano in sight??Possibly the one that's been at various shows for sale?http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/Gompo/Thoresby%2030-08-2010/DSC02346.jpgAye aye. Gompo
More.. Still in the car park, seen on here before perhaps:Yes! Still in the car park, obviously. Maybe had a run in with a Mondeo?I like these, they have good stats and look awkward but cool.I dunno, got to be futureshite.. maybe not the next FSO, but 'Jumbuck' does sound rather crap:.This guy was ace, the only person I really spoke to. Had his 504 roughly 5 years, had a 304 before I think that went to Ireland. Nice bloke and hope to see him at other shows. Car looked great too:One of the traders' vehicles I believe, replete with trailer. This looked nice for what it was..Yum, I do like S1s, and those presumably '3dr' alloys too.Quite a lot of Cosworth's there, this was probably not the nicest, but had good brakes *shrug*Local celebrity on the left I believe.http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/Gompo/Thoresby%2030-08-2010/DSC02421.jpgThis was quite tough looking.http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/Gompo/Thoresby%2030-08-2010/DSC02420.jpgThis wasnt.http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y17/Gompo/Thoresby%2030-08-2010/DSC02419.jpgONE LIFE. barrett
Hey, that purple custom thing was an Amazon once upon a time. I swear I have an old copy of Street Machine from the early 90s with that as a feature car. Good to see it still going strong, even if it looks shite. Did you get any photos of the yellow Bagheera, yellow 412 Variant or yellow MK3 Zephyr?
