@Kiltox please can you get one in june-ish? I'll tidy up the zx and swap you it, and you can have July with no air con and a non working (but fully watertight) sunroof and we can all laugh at you!

If Kiltox/Me had got hold of that one maybe 40,000 miles earlier it would have been a full keeper!

Oh yes, sunroof drains!

Starting one after removing many vital electronic components is a laugh too

330i has 230 bhp or so and sub seven second 0-60 and 150+ flat out

Playing top trumps are we?

Laguna II V6 has 210bhp, 0-60 of 7.7 seconds auto.

E46 330i has 230bhp, 0-60 of 6.5 seconds manual.

Add half a second of reaction time from underestimating the opposition, quick changes from the auto as no human and if a manual BMW, a certain amount of slippage of the clutch if they're not slamming it off the line, you can easily make that second difference with an automatic as you just plant the go pedal. Usually by the time they've fully realised they underestimated the grandad Laguna, it's too late and you're a car length ahead while that V6 roar has given the game away.

325d and 525d and smaller engines are even easier that you didn't even have to try that hard against.

It's why I flipping loved that car. Traffic light GP with a merge at the end never got old. Well my wife might not agree entirely with that viewpoint... :D

FV51 FYP really was the better car in every way. Boggo spec 1.9 manual!

If @RobT still had that clio it would be ideal right now!

Ended it's days because the clutch stopped returning. Usually only with heavy use, ie parking and properly heavy traffic. Would always flick back up though, nae bother... But in the back of my mind, I knew that one day, come back up it would not. I very often queue for a few miles on this cunt, which is very uphill (the zx ticks over in 1st very nicely at a crawl with its short gearing! This needed constant clutch action

I loved mine, both of them. But I was LUCKY, very fucking lucky. It cost me -£42 for both over my ownership (to buy and maintain, not petrol/tax/insurance etc. and not one FTP that wasn't outside my own house due to the dead battery in the blue one...

But we must all take on board mr @SiC's wise words

I used to find that annoying. However it is actually kinda useful as you know it's locked as you walk away, so I left it enabled.

I wonder if the memory stuff is done by the satnav gubbins that is missing. Also might explain why Kiltox has said that the climate system can take 30seconds to startup if it's looking for it on the CAN bus, but gives up after so long.

This car you must treat as a disposable object. If it fails and needs more than a tenner spending on it, then sack it off. There are plenty of other decent Laguna II kicking around still to take its place. Biggest risk on this is the engine imploding. Hence if it starts having problems with it, continue driving it until its either dangerous to or it no longer runs.

Seriously that's how it needs to be treated. I've seen how carried away you can get fixing cars that you've fallen in love with. ;)

Fucking hypocrite...

I dunno, I stand by all cars equipped with the Renault 2.2dci should be treated as disposable objects! It'll just be the petrols that are the ones which will still exist in 10 to 20 years time. If any still remain...

That was an Expression, its not bottom spec! One from bottom, but not bottom. Authentique removed pretty much all the frills and had no luxuries such as climate control and the like...

OK, the ideal spec!

It's just an comfy wafty car. Manual everything! Fairly easy engine. Manual 6 speed box.

I felt bad when @ruffgeezer had car issues mere weeks after selling it as it would have got him out of a right hole for a year...

If I wasn't looking at £700 minimum in just fucking parts to do the clutch and flywheel (which really did shake the dash, @gnomeotborrowed it for the weekend and agreed. Did another 6 months though...) since it has to come apart to do the slave cylinder to fix the pedal which is in the bellhousing. And why the fuck would you be in there at 120k and not do the master cylinder?

It got James browned...

I always felt really fucking bad about the wheels on the silver one too! It had fucking beautiful steels with original hubcaps!

Tyres were fucked though, I had 0 money and 2 days before asm came, they got swapped for the tatty initiale wheels with excellent @Kiltox patented non wearing tyres...

Full on foot to the floor takeoff was very good! Even in my fairly knackered aw55 it did that very well! Usually sorted it out for a week or 2 if I did that

Blew the shit out nicely too, it flew through the emissions at the mot

I have whispered to the speaking computer in mine that my patience has worn thin and if she doesn't start behaving, she risks being sent straight to the bailer. So far it's worked.

Slight thread drift, but looks like S561 VAX with the sexual Sercks might have joined the choir invisible.  The tax checker says 'details could not be found', so I'd love it if the Latvian fella who bought it has exported it home.  I thought if a car is scrapped it just says tax due on xxx rather than not found.

The gooner is a car i want to hate, it's a car i shouldn't like......with all the issues they have no one should like them

I sort of get it out my system and then i see one, which just makes me want one more

mind you i'm also going to get an avantime at some point for maximum part unobtainability

I’m not a a Picasso, nor a Laguna II fan. But the Avantime is something I have always wanted. Ever since seeing concepts in the NOTW. :-)

Do it!
