Skizzer
Not an enormous amount of news on the Skizzer front - the Royale still has issues, I’ve bought an early Renault Espace but haven’t met it yet as @RobT is looking after it for me due to lack of room and lockdown restrictions. And also Rob is a better person at looking after things than I am. However, I have started making films about driving and fixing the fleet on my YouTube channel, Grand Thrift Auto. Think Harry’s Garage if Evo magazine had bombed, and also if he had a rubbish sound engineer. Zelandeth
Whereabouts is this garage that is willing (and competent) to work on your XJ-S? I know there are going to be jobs in the future that I have neither the ability of patience for, so there being a specialist that's a known quantity I could throw it at would be a godsend. Location, price and speed of service are all way lower priorities in my mind than someone who actually knows what they're doing. The two garages around here I trust have made it abundantly clear that they're not touching it with a barge pole, so having an alternative lined up would reduce my stress levels significantly! Swansea - they’re called Mister Matic (for some reason): https://www.jaguar-swansea.co.uk The website mostly talks about modern Jaguars but they absolutely do old ones too. Skizzer
Thanks all for the encouragement and feedback, that’s really helpful and kind. There’s definitely stuff I can improve on but it’s grand that people find it watchable. Work and things means I won’t be able to put out a film a week, and sometimes the only content I’ll have is a bit of hammering that makes whatever it is even more broken. But we’ll see how that goes. djim and Kiltox

A Lotus film should be coming up soon-ish. There needs to be a ‘changing the locks on a BMW E30’ film before I can get the Rover out 😬 but that’ll come. Hopefully this will encourage me to get on with some of those things. RobT, Burnside, HMC and 1 other

Especially if anything like work on the rear brakes beyond a change of the pads, that's getting farmed out! Yes I'd be fully expecting the bill to be in four figures, but I know if I started it myself the car would probably never move again. If it was any other year to be honest I'd probably have chucked it in their direction now with instructions to sort the damned oil leaks and overhaul the injection system (have had the kit here for months now)...oh, and change the alternator which has just lost interest in producing electricity... Have you tried EE Jaguar in MK? I was very pleased with the brake work they did for us on our 1973 XJ6, but they did say they didn't usually do older cars. I sympathise. Gotta love old Jags, eh? They’ve got mine to the point where I’m fairly confident going places in it. There, that’ll jinx it for sure. To be fair, I've done virtually nothing to it besides a service and sorting a few gremlins, almost entirely due to a lack of regular use over recent years. Well, aside from fiddling with the entirely too quiet exhaust. I've no complaints about her needing a bit of TLC. Had already been planning to strip things down in the spring to change the cam cover gaskets - as they're mainly responsible for the fact it leaks like the Exxon Valdez. Obviously given the amount of dismantling involved it would be daft not to do a load of other work at the same time. Ownership over the last year has been a steep learning curve! Can't see the car leaving fleet any time soon though. After the first couple of weeks though (once I'd changed the balloon like top radiator hose anyway!) I never really hesitated to go anywhere in the car though. Anything I lack confidence in rarely sticks around long. That was one reason the last Skoda was moved on. It just wound up playing up every time I took it out it felt like, and I just lost all confidence in it. EDIT: We really do need to get a photo of the two Jags next to each other one day.
