Where did you get your boots from?
I think I need a set considering how feather light they must be.

That's the weird thing. Except for two stretches of avg 50, never went below 75 on the motorway. Was doing 80 up shap and all the way to Carlisle - we won't talk about the copper parked on a bridge :(

I will do brim to brim on way home next Sunday. Maybe the computer is wrong, although I suspect its not.

Constantly in Torque Converter lockup so no fluid transmission losses.

It's no surprise that an early previous owner had it for years and apparently used it for long distance travelling to his villa in France. Comfortable and pretty reasonable on fuel.

After two weeks in Hexham and hammering her back home, she threw a malfunction, just as I was parking up at home. Very glad this didn't happen while stuck in traffic on the M6.

Popped the bonnet, but way too hot to check coolant - not because of missing coolant (hopefully), more to do with 325 miles and 6.5 hrs of 75mph.

Second malfunction now, she throws one up, every time we visit Northumberland !

Luckily the Mondeo and CRV fired up, after 2 weeks inactivity, so I've still got some wheels.

So I summoned the courage to look today.

Coolant still exists

And oil is uncontaminated

Thank goodness.

Hopefully just a failed sensor.

I really need to get a code reader, but there is so much choice and no decent reliable reviews.

MB forums always point people to mega expensive. I just want something that will definitely work for sub 100 quid.

I may just bite bullet take a flyer on a reasonable brand like Launch, Autel, Creator etc.

They seem much of a muchness.

Quick Google says that message can also be down to stuff like engine fans not working at certain speeds, coolant temperature Vs engine temperature mismatch, etc. Definitely need to get the code read.

Is the error coming up every ignition on?

Probably a code reader that is small enough to fit in the boot/glovebox would be the most useful. It's why I bought the cheapy Creator C420 for my BMWs. That way if a code pops up when well away from home, you can plug in and know if it's something serious or benign then figure whether you can ignore/monitor while carrying on your journey. A lot of the time these old German vehicles love to throw a code up that really don't affect the drivability of the vehicle.

If she's a keeper then a semi decent code reader could be a wise investment??

You are right and she is a keeper.

But BIL up north is mechanic. Just sold his business but kept a lot of kit.

She will be moving North in next 6 months ish, so don't want to spend loads, when I can borrow his.

I have ordered a Creator C502, which seems to be set up for MB.

Hopefully it can talk to all modules. I believe it can.

Did the code reader arrive? I'm rather intrigued to know what caused that warning to trigger.

It has. Will be plugging it in later today.

Well my 80 quid code reader is shit.

Its not intuitive to use, plus the options to select, dont match the instructions.

Its scanned all 60 modules.

Great

Well no, because it doesn't tell me if any of the 60 modules have error codes.

I'm assuming I have to guess which module I need to interrogate. But I don't have a clue, which module and I don't want to brick the car.

Especially scary, when the car threw up SBS warnings, during the scan

So, no idea what to do now.

Does those warnings go once it's stopped scanning or accessing the module? Normal for abs lights and warnings on any car to trigger as it disables the module temporarily when scanning. The SBC warning doesn't half make you jump though!

I think those warnings you're getting are from lack of brake pressure in the SBC system. Possibly the voltage is too low for it to kick in and pump up the system. Not a problem unless you're manually moving the car without the engine running.

My BMW Creator puts a cross iirc on the module with codes stored.

Try scanning the engine module and seeing if there are any codes. Might also either be on a body module or a specific fan module.

Watching this video

Does an auto scan to tell you what modules are there, but doesn't tell you what ones have codes. How utterly daft.

Did you want to borrow my Foxwell NT680 and do a scan?

Posted

Maybe a software update might improve things on your creator.

Just connecting to modules and reading codes should never brick a car. I personally don't think twice going into a module to read a code.

Xentry makes the SBC go red and scream for a few seconds during a full scan every time, shows an exclamation mark in the fault box and eventually goes to a passed tick.

Does the scream and red screen reset ok?

Posted

A quick Google says the "Front SAM" (front body computer) I believe controls the cooling fans and system. Try scanning that module, or whatever similar it calls it in the scanner.

It seems ok now.

Did make me very nervous.

I spent most of a weekend sat with that screaming at me until I worked out iCarsoft and others define the SBC system as an E brake. 🤣

Yes the SBC warnings did give a mild heart attack.

I think it does us all. So much so I even took a picture of it. 😅

Basically if you get this warning when driving you need to pull over asap. Not sure how people miss it and keep driving then wonder why after a few actuations they've lost most of their brake power!

I may need too.

Going to try and send the creator back. Its not what I expected or need.

Just want to know the codes quickly and automatically.

Well the scanner is all packed up and being returned.

Glad I bought it off Amazon.

Going to find another that will actually flag faults.

The icarsoft is the one that I often see mentioned on groups.

Or go all out and get a multibrand Topdon/Autel/Foxwell that should serve you on all your cars now and in the future. Just they're not cheap and really are a bit of an investment. My Foxwell does all the tricks but isn't the most user friendly and imo there are better ones out there. I'm glad I bought it though and it's been a useful thing I've used a fair bit (probably more down to the cars I buy 🤣). Iirc it was a present I bought myself for one of my birthdays and how I justified it.

Topdon seem highly rated and a bit cheaper for the same/similar functionality.

I'm probably not going to be anywhere near yours this week, but I'll be in Trowbridge at my sister's next weekend so possibly could detour then. Or if you're over this way feel free to borrow it.

I don't need it anytime right now as I have my BMW Creator which is  acceptable for my BMWs (albeit the Foxwell imo is better on the scans) and my other car is a Honda... 😄

Drop me a PM on whatever works best for you.
