HFM small autos - Cookie's adventures in shiteing

I'm so glad I no longer have to deal with Bath brizzle traffic. Motorbike was the only answer I found, with a physically tiny Honda 50 twist n go scoot the outright winner for the Warmly to college green commute. But you'd be doing that already if you were going to. 😁

Surely this is the perfect use cycle for an electric steed or something like Jim bells in shite?

Not having to buy and run a car would probably pay for your own local rentadesk and gain you time each day.

There's still quite a few older cars that are Euro 4 compliant. My 2003 406 Coupe and Mini were

Yes, I need to do some serious research. Quite fancy a mk2 focus which are Euro4. The MK1s were brilliant and I've never had a mk2. Also seen an Octavia with the 1.4 tsi engine, which also interests me.

In other news, I have found some off-street parking in a private car park.

So the R75 has been moved. Takes the pressure off, as her ticket expires today.

I have just had a nose at this wonderful beast. The pictures do not do the colour any justice, a magnificent car. When it is sorted it will be a great place to sit and waft along in, all be it a bit slowly maybe, but that way everyone can look on jealously.  I like 75s but this is by far and away the best colour combo I have ever seen.  17/10

I live in Bath And North East Somerset (BANES). I'm a Bristolian and pre covid worked in an office in the Centre of Bristol.

Bristol City Council have decided to proceed with a clean air zone, think it comes into affect in October. By then I imagine Covid restrictions will have been lifted and work will be back to normal (ish).

Not decided yet in Bristol on the specifics. As @anglepointed out to me, the government CAZ checker is pap and doesn't actually follow the implemented law. Try the London TfL one as that looks at emissions on the V5 rather than year. Iirc current legislation doesn't do it on EURO year but on the emissions levels of that year. So many pre 2006 cars are exempt.

So hold fire until we know what's happening imo.

Alternatively get a decent road bike and hammer up/down the Bristol Bath railway path everyday. You'll get fit super quick and feel much better for it.

Thanks. I'm going to try to hold off till its inevitable.

Although as I now have the cash burning a hole in my pocket, thanks to the nice people at ZOPA, I can't guarantee how long before something else joins the fleet lol

Aye.

Basically, every piece of CAZ legislation I've read uses the emissions of the vehicle (as per the V5) as what decides whether its chargeable or not. Now, most diesels didn't get to Euro 6 until the 2015 cutoff (although there's some exceptions, particularly some VAG stuff) but most petrols were hitting Euro 4 well in advance. I reckon 95% of petrol cars on a Y-reg or later are actually fine, which might create some bargains if people don't realise they're compliant and try to sack them off.

(Obvs, the other alternative is to do what everyone else will inevitably do which is to park on my road as its pretty much the only place in the city on the edge of the zone without an RPZ...)

So get the warning lights off and its a pass 😁 result. I'll chase the mechanic.

Parrot may have a reader that works. Will find out when I pick it up.

Got to find out why it has wheel wobble. Clearly not suspension related, so maybe front wheels need balancing. Will take to Bathwick in next couple of days to get them checked.

Not wanting to let the grass grow under my feet, I've booked her in with MJN motors in Bristol for 5 March. Highly respected in the MGR local community, they will be able to sort her out. Will also get them to fit the revotech rad fan and gold resister pack, so I won't have to worry about her overheating in traffic.

Just have to work out how many crash sensors she has and get them in advance for a faster turnaround.

Parrot can read the airbag codes and its a crash sensor thats knackered as @Tubbo suspected.

He can't read the ABS codes as they can only be read by the Rover T4 diagnostic system.

My Delphi knock-off can read ABS codes on the 75.  Supposedly at least - I've never actually had an ABS fault to try it on.  It read and cleared the ABS faults on the Freelander though, and that was a 1998 car so even less OBD2 compatible...

The disastra being a minor disastra.

So the ginger machine has got wind of her possible disposal and last night threw up an EML.

Codes read.

4 of them. The first, the same as last time.

@Split_Pin  told me many moons ago, to replace the MAF. I was planning on doing it next month, but have bit the bullet. New one ordered from Vauxhall (how fecking much!).

This morning, no EML. Swear she is just being grumpy.

The R75 has been driven 20 miles to the specialist, to sort her warning lights and fingers crossed have an mot :)

My first long drive in her. She's lovely and now I've learned to give her a good boot to get her moving, was surprised how sprightly a 114bhp could be. A lovely place to sit.

Another quick update re R75.

Dropped at specialist on Friday. Just got a call.

Airbag light now off. Pre tensioner and crash sensor wires had been cut. All soldered back together now. Also needed new crash sensor.

ABS light - needs rear right sensor, to be done this morning.

Then in for new MOT this afternoon. Hope he is not more picky than last tester, as a couple of the advisories could easily be fails.

Fingers crossed.

He will also fit new rad fan, gold resistor etc but can't do till middle of next week, so she won't be back on fleet till 19 March.

Astra - new MAF still not arrived :( once here, she will be leaving fleet, to help pay for Rover. A member of this parish has first dibs. If he doesn't take her, she goes for roffle. Wont be cheap though.

New addition - still searching for replacement for Vectra. May throw all my requirements out window and buy another R75, cause I'm mental :)
