That's my old HZ fitted with the statesman front, I sold it as I was planning on emigrating to NZ later in the year and didn't have time to weld it up, realistically it wanted a better shell importing.

Sadly I sold it to Pandaselecta from retrorides (not scary old Cortina who came with it and I thought would be the perfect keeper for it) he did bugger all to it then sold it to an Aussie who ripped off the GTS bits and the rest was fragged think the engine may have survived by that's all.

Panda then bought the only Holden Brougham bought into the UK officially as a demonstrator did bugger all with it and sold it to another Aussie as by that point it was only fit for spares and upgrades for his Ute, the shell will available at some point.

Junkman had all the details on the Kingswood wagon that was raced, it definitely wasn't mine and I think my have been pink originally, it was raced with the original 6 in it.

You know Panda Pops well then... :-)

The 'Black on Black' was built by a company called Graf-X, based on drawings by the art director of Mad Max. Amazingly, most of the car's body modifications were made using off the shelf components, even the front end, which was created for a Ford show vehicle by a chap called Peter Arcadipane and was subsequently marketed by him as the 'Concorde' kit. It was primarily intended for Falcon coupes and Falcon panel vans, as per the advertisement:

I wonder if anyone ever fitted the front end to a sedan? If so, it probably looked like a massive RS2000 ^^

Found this on eBay:

From the press information on the back of the page, a new XY Fairmont Estate in 1971 would cost you £2513.20.

No DVLA info on what happened to EGT 74J.

The name is a nickname given to the car by fans of both it and the Mad Max films. Its official name is the Pursuit Special.

Oh I forgot! Seems Black On Black was the unofficial name given to the car by the man who built it (who's name I forget). So I would say it's legitimate, though not exactly "cannon".

Now this is a topic I will enjoy.

I recall a thread here a while ago where some shitters attended a banger race (Stan Woods Memorial?) that had a Holden HQ wagon go around the oval, it stood out to me as it had a seemingly rust free tailgate which is quite the rarity.

There was a Holden HQ Statesman that was sent to the UK for evaluation, though I think it is no longer with us.

On the P76 front, there were 2 sent for evaluation, a saloon and a coupé, the latter never reaching production. There is also a Targa Florio in the UK too. All 3 of these cars survive to the best of my knowledge.

A new Range Rover was £2000 back then.

I had an unusual experience with a Charger too, however here in Melbourne. A few years back (I think in 2013) there was a metallic blue VH charger on my street that sat there for about 2 months. I vaguely remember the license plate being something like TNT-101, or something similar to that. It had 5 piece mag wheels, a slightly jacked up rear end, and a black vinyl interior. Saying that it was a bit rough, I recall the metallic blue paint flaking off on the boot, exposing that it was originally beige at one point. Very much an automotive curiosity for me, I regret not taking a photo of it!

Allowing for inflation, the Bank of England says your Fairmont would cost you a tick under £36,000 today.  Which puts the Rangie at around thirty large.

Those were the days, eh?

Well...It's interesting. I was passing the time recently do a bit of research on old car prices - I've got a copy of the 1974 NZ mag Auto Age with the NZ price guide in it to new cars.

My review made me think that British Leyland were asking too little for their products in comparison to the competition.

That could be because that was the max the market would stand, or they had surplus vehicles - but to me it seems they were asking too little - one of the factors that led to their cashflow and investment problems overall and ultimate collapse.

Anyway see what you think. Were they really making a profit on an 1100 at $2785 in comparison to the competition - $200 cheaper than a basic 2-dr Vauxhall Viva?  Was a new Landrover only worth as much as a Datsun 180B?

Some odd inter-range pricing too - was a top of the range Leyland Marina worth as much as a halo model like the well-liked Triumph 2500TC?

The Leyland Marina range was though surprisingly expensive overall in comparison to everything else - competing head-to-head with the Cortina which was a bigger and better car. Maxi however seemed under-priced for such an innovative car - near the bottom of Cortina quartile and with no specification choice or price ladder - no Maxi GT or GXL or Vanden Plas to drive up prices and profit.

A Mini Clubman is only $74 more than a basic 1000 - that's retail after all that reworking and still $350 cheaper than the most basic Escort.

I like the Force 7, but the styling (to me ) is just somehow totally bat-shit weird. It always looks like some bloke came up with it in his garage, type of thing you'd see on the cover of Custom Car or Hot Car back in the day when somebody dick'd around with a normal production car to produce their ideal custom motor... It just doesn't somehow look like a factory product.

My dream of a V8 Monaro is still on hold.  Prices seem to be rising, and after discussions with my accountant about my dividend, and discussions with my wife about the destination of said dividend, it's unlikely that there will be enough.

Basically I need to divide it by 24. 12 parts of the 24, I need to share out over the next 12 months to pay for life, 3 parts of the 24, should be saved for fans hitting the shit, and 3 parts should be used to reduce the mortgage on a BTL by a small amount. Which will increase our profit by a little and mean we pay more tax. And finally 6 parts are to be saved to pay the income tax due on it before next January 31st.

I can and will take an extra £1000, and pay income tax on that too, which is dividend I could have taken previously but didn't because.

I haven't mentioned that to.my wife. But that's going in a "shitter" fund.
