Minty Mitsubishi Roffle: 61k Mile '95 Galant GLSi Hatchback - £7 a Ticket - Congratulations garellikatia!

Recommended Posts

With the month of January nearing its end, the time has come to let go of the Galant. Its been an absolutely brilliant car while I had it, but with my move to Edinburgh approaching quickly, and the lack of space to actually store most of my cars anywhere (I'm sure theres nothing to worry about), this one needs to go. I've written plenty about the car before, if you want an extensive amount of photos you can check my general fleet thread here or check my cross European collection thread from December here.

If you can't be bothered, here are the details.

1995 Mitsubishi Galant GLSi Hatchback

1.8 4G93 petrol and a manual

Just 61k miles, I've put around 2000 of those on it myself over the last 3 months, with a trip to Germany and back again resulting in no real complications.

MOT until June

In general, its in incredibly nice condition. As far as I know, it was granny owned and always garaged, with it not doing many miles at all over the last couple of years. It was then used by a family member since around May of last year, until I bought it in October. Its clear that its been well cared for, without any bodges or stupid modifications to be found at all, excluding the painted wheel trims and radio.

MOT history looks great, too. Its generally rust free but apparently did get a patch underneath a few years ago, which still looks solid. The bodywork looks great, with no damage or corrosion visible anywhere. There is however a giffer scrape on one of the corners of the rear bumper, and unfortunately, an H from the Mitsubishi lettering is missing. I've therefore deducted 500 quid of the actual market value from the asking price.

Mechanically it is very solid, too. The front tires show their age and the idle isn't where it should be (members of the Autoshite team have concluded after some collaborative fiddling that it might need a new coolant temp sensor, idle control motor (the one that opens the throttlebody) or something else. Fortunately everything is cheap and all components extremely easy to access so that should hopefully be a quick fix.

All of this is getting way too long so just have some pictures.

I might have to add that this happened on the Autobahn. Probably the fastest it ever went in its life.

And look how practical it is to boot!

I've set the ticket price to 7 quid which should be fair. I've got a strangely high number of people showing interest in this car so I'll just give everyone the chance to acquire it right here.

Lets go!

First link fixed and ticket list updated. I should add that it also comes with the most important feature you can get on these, thanks to Jim Bell for adding some autoshite authenticity to it!

Looks a good motor that. Look after it and it should run and run. Something a bit different as well.

I genuinely believe thats exactly what it is. You could keep this car on the road for 2 decades with minimal investment. Its still rock solid, which is the reason I am advertising it here first. It needs to go to someone who will continue to take care of it, not run it into the ground like a 400 quid beater normally would be. Its just too nice for that.

Absolutely no effort to keep a car like that running good. Old Japanese tackle like that runs for an age of the oil is clean. Is it belt or chain? Looks a similar unit to the Honda 2.3 in the Accord/623. Just good quality engineering. It’s hard to think why 25 years later people went for Ford Scorpios over these.

This one is belt driven, oil looks great as well. You know that granny had everything done the garage told her would need doing.😄

Probably a nice easy belt job on that as well cause there’s plenty of space round the job. Not many cars that size with a 1.8 either and hatch, probably only similar car from round that time would have been a Safrane which would have been the 2.0.

Probably being the only person who owned a '95 Galant and '92 Safrane, they are quite similar, however the Galant has a much sportier, nippier feel and much better seating position, while the Safrane was incredibly comfortable and had a few more luxuries (that you could have gotten in the Galant theoretically). I think the 626 hatch (which I like a lot as well) and Mondeo 5-door were the closest rivals.

One random please.

I don't suppose you'd be interested in a swap for a Charade?

done, ticket #41! I'm mildly interested but a lack of space wouldn't allow it, as tiny as it is! I have the 528i lined up for daily duty now.

Go on then. I'll have a random.

Take it to Edinburgh with you so my collection would be slightly easier? :D

#36 for you. You know, my new employer would actually pay for the car to be shipped up there, I don't necessarily want to screw them over before I even started working there though lol.

#8, 10 and 47 for you and barmatt

It seems to be a fairly common question on here as to how to run a roffle, so I thought a quick how to with some tips and tricks would be useful.
      Basics:
Numbers 1 to 59 - this allows the use of the lotto bonus ball.  This avoids any chance of accusations of a fix.
Tip: put this in the first post in the roffle thread. You don't want to have to be going back to the 6th post on page three of a sale thread just to add in a random.
Participants can pick numbers, or just ask for a random selection.  Tip: once chosen, tag each user against their number using the @ symbol.  Don't use Tapatalk mentions, they don't work.  In fact, why are you still using Tapatalk?
You don't have to give someone a ticket just because they ask - feel free to ignore requests from fascists, socialists, time wasters, new users or people who use waxoyl.
Tip: put roffle as a tag and an item prefix.
Ticket price should be roughly 1/59th of what you want for the car.  Tip: ensnare gambling addicts by offering a multibuy offer.
Make sure location and ticket price are in the thread title.
Make it clear if the car is drivable, MOTd, and for how long it can stay where it is should a winner not be able to collect immediately.
Once all tickets are allocated, send a message to all victims with payment details.
Tip: use a modern bank like Monzo or Starling so you know immediately when payments come in.  Sending bank details is relatively low risk, especially with modern banks where a newly set up direct debit would be easy to spot and deal with.
If you choose to allow PayPal, BEWARE!
Many intelligent and sensible people are unable to send payments by Friends and Family (which will cost you) or will include "here's your raffle ticket money" in the message (which could lead to your PayPal account being shut down, losing all funds).  Some people then pull the "I didn't receive my item" trick to get their money back, or even claim that their credit card payment was not approved.  In short, taking PayPal payments leaves you liable to lose the money even after you think it's yours.

As the money starts coming in, check off the users in the number list.  When most have paid it's tempting to announce that the next draw will decide the winner - but observe caution here too.  Some people don't pay even after promising to; you don't need to gamble on them.   Wait until you have all the money, then announce that the next lotto draw will be the decider.
Tip: don't worry about following the draw, someone will want it enough to watch it live.

Not actually a roffle, sorry.  What have been our best roffles? I quite liked winning a Lexus LS400..

Six-Cylinder Entertains – Virtual Roffle of my Maserati BiTurbo
As I can’t sing or dance I had to think up an alternative entertainment. I have noticed how much people enjoy a Roffle and obviously collection is difficult at the moment so I am holding a Roffle for one of my cars, the difference is it is virtual and no collection needed!

You can dream for a short while of having a Maserati BiTurbo. I value the car at £5,000 so tickets are £84.00, usual format after all numbers are “sold” the bonus number of the next National Lottery draw is the winner

To make it clear you will not get my Maserati at the end of it, neither will you have to pay £84 for a ticket.
I do have a little treat for the winner as I have a 1:43 scale model of a Biturbo saloon to send them as a gift. If you are the winner and want to be taken out in the real one or maybe even have a short drive after lockdown I will be pleased to accommodate you.

Up for Virtual Roffle is my :
1987 Maserati 425 biturbo saloon, 2.5 carburettor twin turbo V6 190 bhp and feels more because of a great wedge of torque in the mid range. 5 speed gearbox with dogleg 1st.
      Owned for 7 years.
MOT 13th November 2020, but I believe it will benefit from having 6 months added to mean it will not need a fresh MOT until May 2021.
Excellent running condition. Just 60, 000 miles, original leather book pack with service history to 48,000 miles then lots of invoices. Cambelt 2 years ago, brake callipers, recent pair of new tyres. Several rubber fuel lines replaced including the dangerous one that lives in the turbo pressure box.
The Bodywork is always a bugbear with these and we have chased rust a couple of time, windscreen surround, front wings and boot floor. Now a very sound and tidy car if not prize winning.
Of course there are some negatives:
      Radio/cassette is not working
      Wheels need refurbishing
      Some wear to the interior
      Idle a little high
Electric boot release can be a bit problematical
Bonnet 2nd catch release needs a clip.

If you saw the News 24 in the early hours you’ll have seen my next car is due since it’s back up north, so now the collection!
So all I know of this car is the make and model, colour and year. And that it had an MOT. What have I gotten myself into?

This roffle DOES NOT include two new genuine wings. They would be available to purchase by the winner, or I'll sell them separately.
