purplebargeken
Today a shitter arrived in that there North London. He travelled in a silver machine that was both wafty and smelled vaguely of baguettes. It was also French and a bit filthy.

purplebargeken
Okay, painkillers now kicking in thank fuck. Wingz123 arrived at 9am this morning in his silver dizzle Xantia. The car and the Wingz123 family had just returned from foreign shores and the Xantia was looking a bit dishevelled and not its best. I'm not sure how Wingz123 normally looks other than tall, so I can't comment. Anyway. Xantia was taken to the local car wash place which happily is literally across the road. 20 minutes later a cleaner Xantia was parked outside the lock up. Iron Out was sprayed around the car and much purple residue was washed off. Bilt Hamber clay was being warmed up and put to good use. A lot of lube was also used. A shit load of contamination was removed from the Xantia's paintwork and already it was looking a bit more shiny. The Big Genny was fired up and the Meguiars DA attachment was fitted to a 'lecky drill. Various compounds were utilised to make the paint even more shiny and to try and remove the dozens of scratches (of varying depths) from a lot of places on the Citroen. There was a fair bit of success, sadly some of the scratches were down to the base coat and beyond the capabilities of the drill orientated DA. However, it gave a good account of itself and the results were pleasing to all concerned. The paint was polished using Auto Finesses excellent Tripple polish, a little really does go a long way. Next up was the Meguiars ceramic spray. This was entirely new to me. Thankfully it went on easily and polished with a microfibre cloth with hardly any effort. The paint really did look great. In between DA'ing, Wingz123 took the Tacuma to the car wash and it returned even cleaner and hoovered out. I do believe Wingz123 was highly impressed with the pseudo-Chevy. A long and back breaking day but it was worth it for the look on Wingz123's face when he looked over the Xantia. Wingz123
And a massive thanks to @purplebargekenfor helping get the Citroen back to its former glory. It was as Ken said pretty filthy having driven right across Spain. The windows were powdery as a lot of gritting in Northern Spain. It looks absolutely fantastic and I think it is safe to say, Ken and I both share a passion for detailing. We both find it very therapeutic. Here we have a couple of before pictures...do bear in mind pictures are taken on a Samsung S9 and not one of your 10megapixel fandangoes...so it maybe a little hard to pick up the difference all this work has made to this french chod... @bramz7 would have done a better job ???☝️ This is Iron-Out by Auto Finesse (you can buy this stuff from Halfords now!) It creates a 'bleeding' effect which is the chemical reacting with tiny metal fillings stuck to the paintwork impossible to remove during your average car wash... Ken hard at work. Today he taught me ALOT! thank you Ken! As you can hopefully see the paintwork is a lot brighter and silky smooth to the touch! Next job on the list is to tidy up the steel wheels and swap the trims over from the Xantia estate, treat all black trim, wheels off and decrease and detar the wheel arches and protect, then it's on to the interior and fit the leather interior from the estate I have. purplebargeken
The Xantia is such a nicely styled car, not sure why I haven't had one. The mini DA did a lot better than it had any right to really. Sadly a lot of the scratches had gone through the lacquer but on the whole the scratches were improved upon. Shame the DA couldn't rectify the dings. The pictures don't quite do the finish of the paintwork justice, it just glowed It was a pleasure meeting you today mate and am glad that you now feel confident about doing paintwork stuff yourself. Made the day worthwhile in itself I reckon. jumpingjehovahs, Wingz123, Jim Bell and 1 other

lesapandre
Very nice and congratulations about Spain and back. Shows just how hardy and well engineered these so called 'unreliable' Citroens really are, even when they are in older age.
