Cooper1
"interior shenanigans" Roight. The super luxurious LUXURY REAL Walnut has a habit of either fading or peeling off. Sometimes both Guess what mine had done! it isn't a good look!! Naturally the recognised fix is to get it re-veneered or blue it down like a HOBO.. Guess what i did................................... faffing around did eventually get it presentable Again need better pics!! I'll be sure to edit some in when i get them! Cooper1
"Project P38". CARPET!! IN this case is a creamy high quality deep pile "lightstone" now using this in a car that is bound to get dirt in it is a very big mistake, i hate beige at the best of times!! You can see the capet here. A bit filthy. Attacking this required some effort, firstly a good vaccum out to rid of the loose shit Then a hose down with vahish carpet cleaner and a stuff brush, after 40mins of hard work it was hoovered again!! The results. Note the carpet colour An improvement i can say Looks and smells fresher!! Deep pike crap! need some mats ASAP! Cooper1
"Just started" A small task of cleaning up the front end,, In this case the Lip spoiler that adorns the front lower portion of the bumper.. Mine has been whacked and bent, + it's full of shít. I'm sure it is saveable Removal is relatively straight forward, just pull out/off these clips and here ya go! and the crap underneath! I only managed to remove one after getting from work, as light was fading!! the old bus looks a bit odd!! Part 2 later! Carlosfandango
Cooper1
"rear axle". IIRC I posted a picture of the rear diff and it was looking a tad tired. Anyway the treatment was pretty stone age by some peoples taste, however it does look better! the before is 18years of weathering and some numpty who had painted the centre silver, just after acquisition "me" Rust converter was put on any "ahem" RUST!! You then paint it and immediately get it covered in shit!! FML. Ideally it needs pressure washing and a coat of underseal slapped on Hammerite Black was used to get that finish not too bad considering. TFR. Cooper1
"lip spoiler" 'Tis coming up to the weekend and hopefully i can write this "detour" off and get some fettling done!! As i've already posted the plastic lip was all cruddy and distorted. After a wipe down with brake clean, a nice coat of trim gel was added to "pep" it up a tad! Much better! The clips were also given a coat of stonechip should be able to get the other side done tomorra if it ain't raining and refit, hopefully it'll look ok! "exhaust" The other Issue with this thing was a horrible blow, which drove me nutty, hate exhaust blows!! anyway in shitter fashion i lobbed some erm "shit" on it! It only blows out the back which is where it should go!! c1 Craig the Princess and Carlosfandango
Cooper1
Also played around with the EAS and got it calibrated.. If anyone reading this decided to spunk some cash on a P38, don't buy one on springs thinking it's a "safer bet" they're utter shit on coils.. EAS is like riding on "erm" AIR!! and the handling for such a leviathan is great! cheap to maintain too if you can get your arse round a repair manual.. Anyway.. Now it sits level front to back, it always had a Gangta lean on it, which was annoying.. much better And access mode is , again where it should be!! Updates tomorra!! Broadsword
I may very well be picking your brains on the inns and outs of EAS from tomorrow. I haven’t done my homework on that bit at all because I’ve been in the “safer on coil springs” crowd! EDIT: how does one calibrate the air suspension on one of these and how often do you need to do it? Cooper1

You only need to calibrate it after fitting new height sensors or if is just sitting squiffy !! EAS unlock software and calibration blocks are used! I suggest you get these https://www.rswsolutions.com/index.php/range-rover-p38a/range-rover-p38a-eas-unlock-v3 https://blackbox-solutions.com/shop/category/eas-kicker Feel free to ask I've had a few years of P38 punishment!! Cooper1
"beating the Crust" A common rust point on the P38 is the rear towbar mounting point/crossmember.. In my case it is in good nick, but needs a coat of paint, A wire wheel in a drill was employed to remove the surface back to presentable metal. Lotions and potions are few and far between in my shed, however I do have a bottle of Kurust and a brush! - A good coat of the stuff was applied, around 4 IIRC Once this dried it went a nice black colour, IE BLACK!! I decided not to top coat it because you can see whether more corrosion is appearing, and tbf it'll stuff rust under the paint, i can see it and treat it ithout a top coat!! Sump/Tranny.. The Sump on this old bus was covered in mud and crap, After a going over with brake cleaner and a wire brush! Much better! The bellhousing was also treated to a coat of black VHT paint Before. And after a good few coats! Need a wide angle shot in the future I've bought a better camera! More to come!! Cooper1
"Front end Shenanigans" they are done and dusted the front lower spoiler was refitted along with new clips, the plastic itself was treated with some Autoglym bumper gel. Several coats were required for a satisfactory finish "shameless glamour shots" I love taking pictures. LOL I think that is it for now until tomorra when I can crack on with some more stuff!! Carlosfandango
The usual fab updates here. Well done man, it really is transforming into a mint P38. I’ve been pumping up the tyres of my parts car in preparation of moving it to the workshop. It’s been delivering some excellent spares and will continue to do so over the next few weeks - for both my daily and a fun build. Keep up the the good work dude. Love the updates. The donor provides parts for the daily (injector pump and transfer box) as well as the build (interior, lenses and a few other bits). I don’t have the space to keep it for much longer as I’m using the workshop for other stuff and the field where it currently lays is no longer an option. Cooper1
"chunky" The service history for this car notes quite a few services, the diffs being among them.. When i bought this car the PO assured me that the Differentials had been serviced just before sale, the idiot that i am took this as gospel and never checked them!! The Front diff is good, full of nice clean oil.. The rear however!! I drained the stuff, as soon as i pulled the plug i heard a "clunk" and it was a piece of metal that had hit my drain pan!! The oil itself was full of metallic bits and was grey in colour!! thick as shyte too!! Pictures!! Very nice!! Chunky!! I did re-fill with some new 75w90, but i'm not sure why i bothered!! LOL Ahhhhhhhhhh!! Guess a rebuild is on the cards!! LIST!!!!
Cooper1
Next little job involved getting the P38 into its favourite position ? I just vacuumed out the PAS fluid, which is quite easy, 1 suck out the reservoir 2 Start the engine and turn lock to lock 3 the reservoir refills and you just suck it out again Fnarr.. I did this once as i didn't want to starve the pump, the oil was quite good, considering.. And this is hard to see but there is a difference! new on the left and the old on the right! changing the fluid is important on the P38.. Springer
I'm thoroughly enjoying your thread. Hat's off to you for the effort you're putting in on your P38. It's going to be amazing. I even found myself online looking at P38's......then I remembered the world pf pain that @Tayne went through with his Classic and then P38 when we were neighbours. and took myself off to another room and severely beat myself around the head with a short piece of 2x4 embedded with nails. That seems to have done the trick!? Have enough hassles with my 07 XC90 without another thirsty 4z4 in the fleet! Cooper1
Cooper1
Gave the tyres a good spray off Odd i know, but i'm looking to see how the autoglym tyre dressing copes with a good blast.. MikeKnight
Want a 2.5 DSE to break for parts? ? Pretty much at the end of my tether with my P38. Went back to driving the Rover 75 Tourer even. Cooper1
"windscreen repair and deep clean".. The old bus has had a chip in the windscreen for a little while and i've been a tad lazy regarding the fix.. However today i gave it a go! With this relatively inexpensive kit! As i was getting giddy regarding the fix i didn't take a before, however the packet shows a prfect representation of the damage! First off however you have to clean it, and in my case i went a bit over the top Products used Autoglym fastglass - cloth - claybar and elbow grease The glass was wiped down with the cleaner, then it was clayed to remove stuck shit, this is the after, off of a "clean" screen! odd!! Another going over with fastglass got the loose stuff off and we're ready!! The funny sucker was applied to the screen! A few drops of liquid sealer were drizzled down, and a plunger used to force it into a crack. Fnarr!! The assembly was left on for the specified 6 minutes, and then removed, a little drop of sealer was then applied to what was left of the chip, and a clear plastic cover was applied. This is the after, the chip occupied that small light "area" towards the centre of the pic!! Well happy i am! LOOK!! LOL Brilliant!! The rest of the glass also appreciated a good clean! Happy as larry!! C1 Carlosfandango, rainagain, HarmonicCheeseburger and 2 others

Cooper1
Bought some new Oil for her. The 5w40 is draining from the tappets, and making them rattle on cold start, something it never did with 10w40 before.. So some 15w40 should be an upgrade. Should do it at the weekend.. timolloyd and Carlosfandango
Cooper1
Changed the Oil today, and she sounds better for it, 15w40 is defo better for her when cold, as the 5w was draining out the tappets too quickly. + a new bosch filter the engine is completely transformed when cold, the cold start rattle has disappeared which is nice, and the near silent tick over is back The underside also got a good spray down to get the crap off of it! Much better! No rust!! No rust!! Just some dust!! Love it!! Carlosfandango
Cooper1
"eye surgery" A little project for the weekend is to fix the ding in my front fog light, they're a relatively simple removal and re-fitment the being genuine Hella items i'd like to save them!! They're secured by 4 phillips screws and 1 plastic rivnut I had to drill out one of the screws! These two pipes are lR being quite clever, when the lamp gets hot - heat rises and the condensation inside gets extracted out the top one and fresh air is drawn in through the bottom one! The connector of the fog light is located up here. once removed the foglight falls out and you end up with a car missing an eye!! poor thing she'll have it back soon LOL C1 timolloyd and Carlosfandango
burraston2006
Got this last weekend to have a go at sorting the suspension compressor out: The compressor worked but was so slow. It would take approx 10 miles to get to the ride height . I had the codes read the previous week which revealed no faults ( not bad for a 20yr old Rangie). The video looked straight forward ( it does not let you know that 20 years of the compressor heating and cooling causes all the bolts to become one with the housing -bustards!). 2 hours a lot of swearing, 3 emergency cigarette breaks and 1 snapped bolt and it was done. She now goes up and down faster than a whores knickers on a Friday night! Sorry no photos but I had my 75 yr old father 'assisting' . Defo recommend this kit.
