thought youd sold panda?

Have only ever owned one Volvo - a S60 T5 I paid £150 for.  It was utterly buggered, and I realised when I got it home the strut tops were rotten AF so it was scrapped a couple of days later!

Panda is still here, no cunt wanted it.

A post from @vaughant on @Skizzer's thread about how my channel is completely different from how it began has got me thinking - the EV stuff is definitely what brings the views and engagement from my current subscriber base, but I do also quite enjoy pissing around with knackered old shite.

I still have the Panda 30, Rover 216 Cabriolet and Clio in my unit and plan to get on with them, but videos on these subjects don't really attract much interest.

Not sure how to proceed - I'm toying with the idea of setting up another channel to post shit old car content on, keep it separate from the EV stuff.

Hopefully it didn't come across as a criticism, that was 100% not the intention. I still really enjoy your ramblings about EV stuff as you genuinely present it really well. The huge difference in subscribers proves you made the right choice to go EV by a country mile and to be fair most of the people in the comments section seem pretty normal 🤣🤣🤣

If you do set up another channel for the old stuff that would be even better!!!

Do a separate channel.

Your EV subscribers probably won't be interested in any chod content.

If they make up the majority of your subscribers, then you do need to hive off the chod to a new channel.

Kiltox's channel of chod.

Kiltox's QVC.

Quality.

Value.

Chod.

Great name but I reckon a cease and desist letter would be winging it's way to our man pretty sharpish.

He might even end up having to pedal cheap tat, 2am to 4am on their channel as punishment.

What about the vegebag at £45 or this shitty little bear for £90?

I reckon keep it on the same channel, you may get more views that way, even if they don't like it! Imagine the comments from some of your newer subscribers that have ev's when you are talking about some old chod! The MG zs eV lot might even like the Rover!

The problem with that is that publishing a bunch of videos that don’t get much engagement can negatively impact the success of the stuff that should - and I also risk losing subs from the folks that are very anti-those dirty old smokers.

Proper complex this YouTube lark 😂

What about "Scotman's Chods Overdrived"?

Even got the theme tune:

You ain't seen nothing yet,

Bbbbbbbaby you ain't seen the MOT yet

Here's something, here's something you ain't never gonna get babe

Just baby you ain't seen the eBay listing yet

You haven't bought enough chod

  • 2 weeks later...
  • Kiltox changed the title to Kiltox’s YouTube Shenanigans - 02/07/21 - New developments?

Currently uploading roughly chopped together compilations of my older videos to the new channel so there's some kind of back catalog on there when the real action starts.

I'm collecting the first vehicle that's going to feature "live" on there tomorrow! 👀

  • Kiltox changed the title to Kiltox’s YouTube Shenanigans - 08/07/21 - NEW ARRIVAL! It’s very grim.

Possibly a 1.4 Merit would be the static in Rhyl costing you an absolute bomb because of the kids holidays but all the while you are there you have the spectre of the first day after back after the ‘holiday’ walking into your probable dismissal from work.

Whilst this is going on your wife is making frequent  secretive calls to her solicitor and her parents To top it all you have a bout of debilitating flu and impetigo starting on your face. Each morning had the chorus of ‘What shall we do today? We could go and play mini golf it’s only £38 for 2 rounds’

Every trip out of your seemingly limited budget, you get royally bummed by the various tourist attractions wanting to make their money back due to COVID at your fucking expense. Because you’ve only got £8 a day to spend the kids are rowing and crying constantly, particularly through the night when the high point of the entire holiday is waiting until everyone has gone to bed so you can tune into Babestation under the guise of ‘catching up with Newsnight’ But every time it goes quiet you keep getting CONSTANTLY FUCKING Disturbed.

On your way home the 1.4 in the Astra seems to be chomping away through fuel like there is no tomorrow, progress on the M62 is so slow you start to feel like the accelerator is nothing to do with how quickly you progress but it’s actually operating some sort of valve in your pocket that lets all the bank notes and coins drop on to the carriageway. At last after 2 hour tailbacks at fucking Chain Bar or Gildersome you arrive home to a speeding ticket, a credit card bill with various fraudulent transactions on and a party wall dispute that will in all probability bankrupt you is waiting on the door mat Incidentally the boiler won’t work and whilst you’ve been away some wankers have kicked all your plants over and the greenhouse has turned the garden into the Somme in a gale. Don’t start getting any notion of switching off and watching the television, you now have to unload the car and make a start on a pile of ironing the size of Table Mountain.

Thats how miserable the Merit must be. Especially in the emasculating detuned 1.4 ‘Hi Torq’ with its tweed upholstery, the perennially threadbare gear lever gaiter and the cheap plastic that shows scratches up really easily. A constant reminder of how things have panned out really badly into a life filled with mediocrity.

'L' was an uncommon spec back when they were new. It was mostly Merit, LS, GLS etc etc.

I had a 5 year old Merit back when they were current. 1.4 spi, 5 doors, in that doom blue most came in. It felt like a flippin limo after the Metros, Mk2 Fiestas and Maestros that were around when these cars were launched. You've got to remember, this was the early 90s when family cars weren't exciting or aspirational (what a horrible term).

They were solid, comfortable and reliable in their day, especially considering the alternative was mostly a Mk5 Escort.

I'll admit, the suspension was most certainly not tested at the Nurburgring though :D

My dad had a Mk2 Astra L, with the ‘88 on 1.4, wasn’t that bad to be honest, better than an Escort put it that way. I remember him saying it was fairly nippy but let’s be fair he’d had a Sierra EMAX before so...

This was replaced with a ‘91 Astra 1.4 L, it was ex fleet at the place he worked, as others have said it was depressing. I think the MERIT was the fleet spec, so the L was perhaps the next step up. Anyway I can remember it having galloping rot all along the rear arches and the doors. Took us all over though but those trips to France in the detuned 1.4 must have been bloody hard work.

Trufax: My father won an Astra L in the works car raffle. Unfortunately it was a Mk2 so not quite as relevant to this thread but as Meatloaf once sweated, "two outta three ain't bad"

Think he also said ‘I’d do anything for love but I won’t do that’ ‘That’ being an Astra Merit.

Oooh, the plot thickens. According to the confidential dealer launch pack on Vauxpedia the range went from Merit to LS and no L is mentioned. It is possible that Mr K is trying to look more street and cool and keepin' it real by scratching off the S and pretending he's less posh that he actually is.

Differences between the Merit and the LS were few. The LS got a driver's seat height adjustment, a slightly better radio and auto reverse on the electric window. Obviously the Merit had manual windows so the auto reverse facility was a little more basic and involved the person whose head was trapped saying in a loud, clear voice, "Excuse me, could you wind the window down please? My head is stuck." Outside the LS got a sunroof, central locking and tinted glass. Well swish.

Was the L a fleet special? You could definitely order odd stuff as I remember a friend of my mum's was a notorious tight arse, and he ordered a 3 door estate Astra of a similar vintage to this, waiting absolutely ages for it to be delivered to save about £300 vs the 5 door.
