I think her motor was a scrote, XR3 I think; I can't remember what the septic drove but given it was the 1980s on ITV it would have been a Ford product of some kind.

Makepeace had a MK3 Escort Cabriolet (1.6i, it didn't get called an XR3i cabrio until the MK4 facelift.) IIRC it had a WC reg number so yes it will have been a Ford press fleet car.

Dempsey (the septic) had a Merc W107 350 SL.

In an early episode makepeace drove a mini.

The Council GT has recently be restored alas George's MK3 2.0XL (NHK296M)  along with most of the other Sweeny cars were scrapped during the 80's.

Aye, I've been following Mr Shifters posts on FB of the Consul resto, beautiful job. Shame about the other Sweeney motors, rumours keep circulating about the gold Granada Ghia RHJ 997R still being in existence, albeit in a bad state.

Loads of pics on the net of Jackie Stewart with this Mk1 RS3100, but this colour pic appears to show it as the only Purple Velvet one. Don't honestly know if it's a doctored pic or if it's gen, looks gen to me.

Gorgeous colour for Ford models 73 - 76. But you just couldn't imagine, say, a 76- 79 Mk4 Cortina Ghia or a 78 Mk2 Granada this colour, it just wouldn't look right.  Ford geekness can be very strange.
