This. We all know what's supposed to go there between the wing and the headlights, you can't fool us that it was meant to be like that and you didn't have a last minute change of plan for the headlights/indicators when you'd already made the tooling for the bodywork.

Has anyone got a pic showing what it was meant to look like before the change?

Talking of Ford penny pinching - base MK1 Fiesta doesn't get heater vents at the ends of the crashpad, Ford made two different parts, and two different heater boxes to pushish you for being tight

(OK the one in the 2nd pic is the padded Ghia version, but you had to buy at least an L to get decent ventilation)

Yeah that always bugged the crap out of me. The hard plastic one was really poxy.

Thing is I always thought it must have cost more to tool up for two different dashboards than just fit one type to all models ???

More like this I'm guessing.

As this was the face of Rover at the time they were being developed. I think I read somewhere (which means I may have imagined it, and even if I didn't it may not be true) that BMW forced Rover to put the indicators as low as was legally allowed so they wouldn't be able to do a sporty version with lowered suspension as it would be competition for there own cars. I think the honeymoon period was very much over by then and there were lots of arguments over what the 75 should be.

Obviously once BMW left they released  the MG Z range with whole new bumpers with raised indicators.

Which gives me an excuse to post a picture of my old ZT-T.

PS, panel gaps around the front of 75/ZT's was always terrible.

I'm surprised BMW didn't tell Rover to delete the indicators completely in order to maintain consistency between the two brands.

I want to know what’s going on with the rear door of the Citroen GS... why does it go that far back under the window?

And speaking of inappropriately placed glass, I never liked how the Vauxhall Cresta’s front doors opened underneath the curved windscreen so you hit your kneecaps on it when you got it

The front of the Morris Ital. It appears they used the bog standard Marina wings/front & just shoved the new indicators, lights & grill into the existing hole. Presumably that's why you have the weird little filler panel at the top between them & the bonnet & also at the bottom near the bumper. It looks like a lash up.

Apparently Harris Mann was responsible for that, and it looks like he was under orders to touch as little of the existing bodyshell as possible to save on tooling costs.

ItalDesign published an extensive coffee table book some years ago, showing virtually every design project they had worked on. Guess which car didn't get a mention?

Be fair to Ital (the company, not the car) it was someone else's mild facelift of someone else's design that they helped put in to production.

Had the car been a roaring success and become a desirable cult classic (unlikely!) then Ital would be criticised for trying to claim credit.

The fact the rear doors on the Mk1 Lag estate are clearly just saloon doors and the back looks tacked on.

rover25il_750_500_70.jpg

And the fact the Rover 25 has "bonnet not closed" gaps

I had a MGZT ,it was that bad people  would tell me the bonnet was open

In the end I put washers under the grille screws to lift it up a bit from the fuck it that'll do factory position .

Deleting air vents from the base model is something that was carried over from the Mark 1 Fiesta.  On the Mark 3 Escort, Ford deleted the two centre vents from the base model instead.

The Jaguar symbol on the XF annoys me - it's not symmetrical - fine as a bonnet mascot but not as a badge

Yes! It annoys me greatly, might be OKish on the wings but needs the growling cat on the rear. The fact that the rest of the car looks like an anonymous BMW doesn't help either.

I still think it looks awful with the plate centered. The horizontal lights are also an entirely stupid idea, as the brake lights aren't allowed to be on the (one piece, no longer split, nice one LR) tailgate. So, despite the massive tail light units, you only get this much brake light.

As a consequence they have to be ridiculously bright, piercing LED units that blind you when sat behind one. And the drivers won't put it in neutral and apply handbrake because autobox.

Compare that absolutely crap bit of design work with the brilliantly visible (and completely distinctive) units on the the 3's and 4's.

You can always tell when you're following a Disco 3/4 at night from a distance because of those lights. And note the width of the (split, woohoo!) tailgate is still just as good as that of the Disco 5.

*maybe

Can you tell I don't like the Disco 5 much?

Original Mini doors never seem to fit properly and look open even when shut. Pisses me off everytime I see one.

R25 door handles. Good looking rounded 90s profile ruined with blocky unpainted plastic door handles from an 80s Honda. Also the stupid vinyl applique on the door that tried and failed to look like part of the glasshouse can piss off and later did.

I think because this thread is about the details you may have missed until it's pointed out, whole that thing is just a mess for all to see (except everybody at LR it seems).
