What do your kids drive?

Six-cylinder

I have two sons who both have run away to Toronto, Canada to get away from me, but I do get their car pictures from time to time. They both have partners and are two car families, Older - VW Jetter V5 and Corolla. Younger - Ford F150 pick up and Rav 4 V6.

They both like cars but the older one has two young children and the younger has not been in Canada that long and is just getting going with work stuff so they have no room or money for toys, yet!!!!

I don't have kids either, but I do have two adult stepkids, both married with kids of their own.

You can tell they're not mine: both have gone the new/near new German route, with history of assorted VWs and BMWs, and at least two Audis between them.  I despair.

Eldest daughter is on her third C3

Second daughter has a new MX5 and an ancient Escort cabriolet - they are hers, son in law has an A5 and she hates it.

Eldest son has a Seat Leon Cupra that he will be dumping soon for something bigger to get his mountain bikes in.

Youngest son only has mountain bikes and a Triumph Street Triple, uses my C5 all the time and moans about it.

Youngest daughter has a Megane C+C.  She changes her cars quite often, always at least five years old.

Mine aren't that old at 21 and 23 and only the eldest drives, so far she has had an Ignis (crashed), a Polo 6N, traded in for a '18 Polo (crashed) and now she drives a 57 plate Mini One I bought for a grand after she wrote the new Polo off, the Mini is a bit crap but it was a distress purchase and was needed in a hurry, it'll do for now though.

My oldest fully embraces the AS Life' she has an e30 316 Auto and commutes from Milton Keynes to Oxford each day in the ex-Sportyshite Roffle win 406 2.2d Coupe.

Number 2 has a 2010 Volvo XC90, which when she bought , she traded in an AS supplied 307 ( ex- Solid61) and for years drove a Rover 600 ( ex-AngryDicky)

Number 3 has an 03 Beetle Cabriolet.

Number 4 has got the 59 Fiat 500 that we bought new and all of them have abused at some point, prior to this she had an As supplied Seat Ibizia ( ex-Crusty Sills).

So it seems the Autoshite influence is strong in my offspring.

I don’t have kids but I have two nephews.

Number one went through a phase of destroying various Seats in increasingly creative ways, which is just the sort of thing I did at the same age, then got a shite Jag S-type and now has a responsible job and a company Skoda Superb.

Number two spends all his time travelling, either on boats looking for offshore oil or hanging out with his Vietnamese girlfriend, so he doesn’t have a car as far as he can remember.  He used to have a very tired 2002-ish Honda Civic with opaque headlights that he abandoned on various people’s driveways for months at a time, including mine, but he’s either sold it or (more likely) just forgotten where he left it.

No1 son is 16 next week, when he  gets his provisional license . He is the second oldest in his year.

He wants his first driving lesson on the morning of his 17th birthday, then would like to do a 2 week intensive driving course.

He wants my Daimler,he'll probably get a Citroen C1 or what ever is on the Shite for sale selection box.

All three of mine learned in either a Rover 214i or a 200BRM.

Eldest went from his own BRM to a 3 door Astra (with the heaviest doors on the planet) for 'economy' reasons before chopping the Astra for a Nissan 350Z and now has a 120k miles spaceship Civic Type R in multiple shades of red -  for more 'economy' reasons.

No.2 has gone from borrowed BRM to Rover VVC coupe to Mitsubishi FTO and, now with her own offspring, is driving an 07 plate Accord diesel estate,  which is an excellent, if leggy, family wagon. (her OH has a 95 plate, base-spec, Electrolux white 316 compact - which used to be pretty much immaculate until he improved* it for road-rally purposes)

No. 3 went straight from borrowed BRM to an '05 Mini Cooper S - she still has it, been about 7 years now.

My daily driver rotates between the ZS (14yo), the V6 Freelander (16yo) and the TF of many colours (17yo)

I may* have adversely* influenced their car buying decisions.

Nothing under 10 years old there - the only one letting the side down (or being sensible) is my son's OH who wants worry-free motoring and has PCP'd her second cute Fiat - and it works for her.

I have one son, now just turned 32 (where the fuck did that time go?) and his car history is pretty impressive, more so when he had zero interest in cars until he was in his early twenties... other than the stuff on Playstation, Supras, Skylines etc.

In order:

Vauxhall Nova (bought by me for £50 from a friend and seriously renovated with big wheels, resprayed back end due to dodgy paint and run for a year or two)

Ford Mondeo 1.8LX. Bought by me (again but this time as a present) and run until he went away to Uni.

Toyota MR2. First car he bought himself with no imput from anyone. Tiny bit of a bender as the drivers side was FULL of filler but drove well and he sold it for good coin.

Seat 1.8Turbo thing, Cupra R but I forget what!

All the time he was saving... for

Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R. I was mightily impressed, cost a bomb, was modified constantly over the next few years (Carbon panels, wheels, engine work) and remained utterly reliable, never broke down, never failed an MOT and it got some serious track abuse. Was written off by a half asleep son pulling out of work carpark in front of an inoccent! Got back more than it cost or what it was worth from the insurance company!

Toyota Supra Turbo. Too big, too fat, too heavy, too slow.

Toyota MR2 Turbo, JDM import with some fancy Japanese bodykit and big wheels. Very low, very fast.

Jaguar XJ8 that he inherited from his car loving mate. Died at 29 and left Kyle the car, his wife and Mother insisted that Kyle take it free of charge as that's what was wanted. Kyle says he will NRVRT sell it.

Nissan Micra - girlfriends car.

There may be others and he also has a company car now, some Jag or RR.

I forgot MX5 wit a turbo and ratlook paintjob he did himself - magnolia emulsion I think :)

None of them are car people at all and none of their cars are more than two years old, except for youngest's rusting '04 Focus and newest driver's 09 Corsa. So between the kids and their spouses: BMW 1 & 2 series, Audi A6, Touran and (my favourite) a Ssanyong  Rexton.

The Petrol 1 series goes wrong a lot.

The Petrol 2 series was a bit of a bargain as the lad's boss wanted rid after six months and needed an employee to dump the lease on. But he doesn't think much of it either.

The Diesel A6 is only a week old and is the third A6, so Audi must be doing something he likes. I was dissapointed that the 4.0 badge on the bootlid doesn't indicate a big engine?  ( But he is desperate to get the "lane departure control"  deleted, 'cause it scares him.)

Daughter loves her petrol Touran, but just admitted that they still havn't managed to sell the Golf Dieseel ruined by VW's updated software.

Horse-girl loves the Rexton, with it's 3 tonne towing weight. and school-run dominating presence.

When my daughter reaches driving age (in, um, 17 years) there will just be soulless SUV electric pods that whiz you automatically to wherever you want to go. Normal cars will be outlawed.

If there's no law, I'll probably buy her a Suzuki Baleno or something...those will be worth about 55p by then.
