sdkrc
I couldn't find a decent home for this in one of the other threads so please prepare your eyes, your minds and your bodies for this visual treat of late 90s Yorkshire autotrader and other miscellany. Please chime in with your own crap if you have any Twiggy, Sudsprint, chodweaver and 10 others

sierraman
Funnily enough this afternoon my Father in Law had found some copies of the Sheffield Star from 1976. There was a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro in there on the classified page for £650. Christ knows what that would be worth these days. Still in 1976 £650 would still be a considerable sum. £4,500 in today’s money. sdkrc, warren t claim and Split_Pin
sdkrc
Wonder what £650 would buy in 70s Sheffield. You could probably have a couple of shite houses. £70 for a 9 yr old Lada Riva with 4months test. No pictures because $$$ Burnside, Amishtat, HMC and 5 others

HMC
I used to pore over these in the back of the Manchester evening news in the early 90s dreaming of having a £500 budget (aged 12) Burnside, sdkrc, Walter White and 2 others
sierraman
It wasn’t just me that imposed a self inflicted budget of £500 to buy a car in the Autotrader when I was 12 then! I remember, bizarrely, being about that age and spending hours deciding, in the real world, would I choose the E plate 1.3 Maestro with four months test or the 87’ D Hyundai Pony. I was the same with picking up copies of What Car in the 90’s. Again I had an imposed 10k budget and as far as I can remember you could just about afford a basic Escort 1.4 or an all singing and dancing Suzuki Baleno MiniMort, Sudsprint, Burnside and 4 others

HMC
One striking thing for me comparedto today is how understated, unpretentious and low key the ads were; stuff that would be now “£POA” at Tom Hartley jr with a full colour splash are taken on a muddy drive with a German shepherd alongside. Originality also seemed less important (modified and tuned xk’s seemed more valuable in the ads I posted) Matching numbers? What’s that old chap it’s got the same old knackered engine?! I Remember the white “fox bat” xk150 for sale in the late 90s (in classic and sports car) for about £15k - in the ad (one of those where the editorial team do a sort of road test). It said it was made out of 2 Morris minor travellers grafted on the back, had fibreglass Rear wings and was a bit tatty. sdkrc

Always had some interesting stuff and nicely laid out ads. I think Malcolm is no longer with us - but the business may survive... but as I no longer read car 'mags' unless they turn up in a local charity shop I'm not sure. But yes the name brought on a wave of nostalgia.
