M'coli
Okay so I was going to wait until the next update to put this one in, but my god, I first saw this car a few months back on the way to Tadley, and I have been hoping to see it ever since.1980 Ford Escort MKII 1.3 L Saloon. by bramm77, on FlickrLocal plate, no sunroof, and it never turns at up at shows, so I wonder what the story could be. One owner perhaps! That looks GR9. I'm not surprised it doesn't have a sunroof, but it looks great on those wheels. I'd say it's giffer-owned from new-ish, judging by the AA badge. I can also see into its possible future, it includes a pair of Irish number plates, a weld-in roll cage and a ditch or two. Shame really.
r.welfare
Damn you Brammy, I tried (and failed) to get a pic of that Escort about 4 years ago (the first and last time I took any candid snaps for this site). The old couple who mooch around Tadley in it are, I would suggest, most definitely the original owners. And I assume their progeny are not OSF YKT fans or they'd have "swapped" them into a nice Fiesta instead...
In The Pit
That Escort is just perfect, but as M'coli said it will probably end up being smashed up in rallying by someone who claims to be a MKII Escort fan. You dont see them like that on the roads anymore, Ford got the look just right, shame so many owners can't see that these days. If you get a chance to talk to the owners i'd mention to them that the car is worth atleast £3000 cause i'd hate to hear that some chav offered them "2 hundrad quid for ya ol motor cause its worf nufin" and then ruining it or making a quick buck. I'd advise them on some security aswell as pointing out its probable fate if they did sell it. Also with regard to the wheels they are the correct ones for a late L they are Ford Sport Steels, the later L's received an upgrade that included those wheels, square headlamps and the side rubbing strips. I liked the Ford Capri kit they did, as a car fitted with it looked far more purposeful than the Tickford Capri (the body kit of which was designed by the guy who later set up Kat and much later created the Ariel Atom), especially from the front:
