That's a lovely story and I'm so glad you got your Dad's old car back. It looks in fantastic condition.

BTW if you want to insert images into your thread in a specific place, once you have uploaded the image, tap where you want it to go in your text so that the cursor appears. Then scroll down to your image. On the bottom left (hard to see if the image shows a car on a dark surface like a road) is a dark grey button with a plus sign in it. Tap that and the image will appear wherever you put the cursor.

The Ventora looks fantastic.

I went through the same 'check latches' business with the Saab that Craig now has back - really you'll need someone with a Tech2, as it'll need reprogramming even if there's something mechanical to fix. My local Saab specialist sorted it in 20 minutes though...

Wow, the Ventora looks stunning Gary.  U r Jeff Randall AICMFP (OK that was a Victor, but still).

Department S had a Ventora (RXD 997F, which guested sometimes on R&H).

Gary, I've been watching this story unfold on FB and I'm absolutely delighted for you.  The car that has comparable memories for me is my dad's mk3 Zephyr 4 (DWM 95C) which I mention on here from time to time, in the vain hope that someone turns it up in a barn or some such.  I'd be almost as happy with JEV 463C, his mk1 Cortina, which was the first car I ever drove.  I'm equally certain that's long gone, but again, there are plenty of barns...

I'll wish you many, many happy miles in it my friend.

I've ran both the Zephyr and Cortina reg through DVLA, no trace of either so we're off the road by 1980. Would be nice if one or both turned up in a barn somewhere though

The Ventora!      Big Vauxhalls FTW.

Here's an advert I picked up from the classic car auctions in the early 1990s...

That's an exact copy of the one I had in the late seventies. Got it for 350 quid.

Would love another but out of my price range. Aargh !

As posted on Facebook I'm over the moon you've got it, when you said you couldn't afford it and that it was destined to gain a V8 I came close to buying it myself to 'save it' as such but it meant selling both of mine to pay for it and that bothered me at the time but I'm well chuffed you managed to get a loan for it, you'll never lose your money either, unlike a modern one.

Yes, I've done that, more than once.  I think it's pretty safe to say they're both long gone, but while there's a barn there must be a glimmer of hope.  It's over 40 years since I last saw either one.  Cortinas, especially two-doors like JEV are way too expensive now but if I was to sell Huggy a Zephyr wouldn't be out of reach.  Anything can happen, I suppose...

It would be nice if one of my grandparents old cars turned up, either the Prefect they had, the Mk1 Cortina or Mk1 Escort but no trace of any of them at DVLA so they are probably long gone. The Prefect was PWF 946, the Cortina FOK 909D and the Escort ADF 166K.
