Yeah apparently they are really soft and fold straight up in a impact so rubbish for bangers but the 2.9 V6 is worth a few quid on it's own.

I've been working my little socks off today on this, started at 9pm and finished at 6! but much progress has been had, firstly i went all two buckets wrongin on it's sorry arse.

Which resulted in it looking much better already.

also have the engine bay a quick wash too.

Next my attention turned to the interior, it was rough, clearly dangermouse and his mates have been living here for a few years as there was bait under the rear seats and eaten interior trim and bits in the glovebox.

I found Autosmart G101 multi purpose cleaner was excellent for cleaning marks of the carpet and getting all the grubbiness from the door shuts, definitely recommend that stuff, buy 5ltrs of it and dilute it in one of them pump action spray bottles and it last ages.

Much nicer I'm sure you'll agree!

I also had a quick wazz over the front wing with the mop, you can't really see much of a difference here but it's come up really well, I think the car will repond well to a mop all over.

Excellent progress, Nuch Micer.

Even if it is temporary, a bit of wag in those rear arechs and a whizz over with an Aerosol to put on some Tigger style paintwork and this will look concourse.

Proper 80's style Ford 'wanna be' a Jaguer but didn't quite make it interior wood

I think that's what I'll be doing, It won't be getting wet and at least it will be tidied up.

So after mopping the wing i dropped the oil out of it and fitted a new oil filter, the oil was like new and the filter was spotless, as was the air filter so I'm guessing it had recently been changed just before it was parked up.

I then had all the wheels of to check over the brakes and see what parts I'll need, so far all i can see are a set of front flexi's and a pair of rack gaiters on the front and new pads and calipers freeing up on the rear!

Sadly as you can see the arches let it down, like said above I'll probably just botch them for now, the same as we used to do when i worked for a body shop in the late 90's! We'd have these come in as part ex's and all the garages ever wanted was them tarted up to a sell back on!

So there you have it, plenty to do but a lot less than expected, I'll get the alloys off and give them a coat of paint and a set of new tyres soon, a set of 4 Toyos from Demon Tweeks on Ebay are only £126 plus £10 a tyre to be fitted and the headlining at the rear needs resticking, god knows how i'll do that without making it look shit and I'll probably start mopping it shortly too.

I remember my mate at schools dad changed their creaky Cortina for a C reg Granada 1.8.

I wonder how they got on with it as they were a very large family.

I don't mean there were lots of them, but they were a family who obviously liked their food, putting it as politely as I can.

OR:

How did a 1.8 Pinto pull along a bloody great Granada with those fat bastards in it?

Families like that are always refered to as the Golightlys round our way

Good work! I remember back in 2005 I was motoring along the M3, when I was passed by one of these doing a ridiculas speed. I was probably doing 80-plus, and it made me look as if I was standing still!

Then up ahead in the distance, I saw a cloud of dust rise up, and everyone started braking. When I got to the scene I saw that the Granada had lost a wheel, and had spun several times, bouncing off the central reservation but fortunately avoiding any other cars.

So, check your nuts!

Top buy and save.

I remember someone proper rough in my primary school (1998) whose parents had a shagged looking gold E reg one which had brown tape holding all the smashed and damaged bits on, and it had bare steel wheels. Impressive they made it look so crap when it wasn't even that old.

A proper old boy had a two tone (black and grey) Scorpio for years when I lived in Odiham, unfortunately it got scrapped when he died.

Probably one of two Ford's I'd pay money for.

Seems an opportune time to wheel out this expertly scanned* picture of my 20iGhia in 1994, it was 6 years old at the time and I paid £3500 for it, the most I'd ever spent on a car. A previous owner had painted the bumpers and the 16" RS Alloys came off a lovely C reg 2.3 LX mark 2 I got from Wellinborough auction for £100, I'm ashamed to admit I sold the mk2 to a banger racer after raping it for its wheels.

I ran the Granny for a year as a cab, before putting 15" steels and some Ghia X badges on it, gave it a haircut and made £500 on it- don't ever buy a car off me, but you knew that already.

Have had it running trigger ?
The arches aren’t too bad all things considered .
Does yours have the headphone jack in the back? You could get really 80s looking ford headphones for 80s in car ice.
It's runs lovely! Fires up first flick of the key, even with over 1/2 tank of 10 year old fuel in it! Sadly it has no rear ice and the front ice isn't much better, the tape player just clicks and doesn't play tapes and the graphic equaliser works if you hold the power button but as so soon as you let go it comes off again. :(

That's a top car that. I love the Fords from that era. Showing my age but those were the cars when I was in my prime although in those days I had a XR3i and a couple of XR2s.

Agree I love the Fords from the 80's they did some well specced cars in the late 80s.  MK4 XR3i,  Sierra 4X4, Ghia or GLS,  Orion Ghia, Granada Scorpio etc...  I would say 1988/89 is probably the best time for the Ford range.

Totally agree, in those days nothing even came close.

You have the balance joystick with graphic equaliser though?, which is in a different place in mine.

My one doesn’t run great I need to start looking at it but it’s not easy to know where to start .
