Stolen Traction Avant Hackney

Damn. I just saw this the other day, seems to always be parked in a prime spot right next to the canal. Quite a brassy move nicking it right next to a load of people in not-very-soundproofed houseboats. I hope the scumbags get caught and the car is returned safely.

It's not the sort of car you can see being ringed.  Do DVLA have a flag when people try to Tax a car that's been off road for a while?

I don't think so, Iv had a Model 70 that have been untaxed since 1997 taxed again without issue

plus this traction does have current tax it seems

I think the main worry with vintage cars being stolen these days is that they get broken for spares as the thieves know that the car whole is too hot to handle as someone will recognise it etc if they try to get rid of it whole

There really isn't a huge market in spares. BUT this rotten slough built one  is currently on ebay, so the cynic in me thinks it's about to be ringed.

How close nit is the traction avant people? does anyone know the seller? if the seller is a friendly chap it might be worth letting the seller know whats just happened and for him to be on his toes

as a side note while this happening in hackney is a bit concerning for me and my Invacar

im not TOO worried as the one thing with the whole invacar thing is there's just like 5 of us

so if suddenly someones invacar was to go missing and then showed up on ebay as a barn find or something we would all be able to spot it instantly (at least me and stuart would as between us we know every Surviving Model 70 down to the cracks in the body work :) )

(a good example is when that Annesley guy tried to sell a Model 70 to Fraser while not actually owning said Model 70 and me and fraser realised we were trying to buy the same Model 70 from 2 different people LOL)

Good point. The TOC has about 500 or so UK based members. A lot  keep themselves to themselves but some are very active on rallies and social things. There are probably a similar amount outside the TOC. Some owners don't do their own maintenance and use specialists - like Darrin at Citroen Classics who made the original post and see no need to join a club. So not that close knit. So I know about 100 Traction owners but I don't know either the owner of the stolen car or the seller of the rust bucket. But I'll contact him through ebay and let him know about this - however if a '46 car was being passed off as a '53 car it might be noticed as the big boot come in in '52. But who trusts a V5 from the 50's anyway?

In the twenty years I’ve been in the ccc this is the first time I’ve ever heard of a traction being stolen.  My 2cv mechanic friend is well known in the TOC and I’ve known him since 1995 and he’s never mentioned a car being stolen as far as I recall.

Only after I hastily posted did I realise that the heap for sale was post war. But I still think it’s worth considering.

Three speed Chris will know best, but I can’t see there being a large market in second hand spares for a pre war Slough car? A bit like Clare howarth’s 2cv last year, I think  it will have been stolen for the panels, interior etc for another car.

I fear that it will be found burnt out,

This. Even if the bastards read the story or see it on crimewatch and realise the sentimental value. If there's no market for it they just won't want to get caught.

Some people just have no morals at all.
