Shite you just don't get the appeal of

Stupid Invacars, anything made by Rover post 1980, Talbots, the Horizon, Samba and Tagora were fucking awful, MK3/4/5/6 escorts which are dire in pretty much every trim/engine size, Felicia's, Citroen ZX's, pretty much every Fiat apart from the mk1 Punto which I like, all Vauxhalls apart from the MK3 Cavalier GSi2000 (which I owned a couple of) the Corsa in particular was utterly woeful in every iteration, All BL cars and many more but I've probably offended enough people already.

No one's offended.  You just don't belong here.  But we tolerate heratics in the way the Catholic church never did.

Whoops mentioned religion again.

I think as I get older I'm not sure that I like cars at all.

They are a form transport and a reliable one is convenient, but there has to be better ways of spending time and money.

At least it wasn't politics .... That would be worse 🤣

If it wasn't for politics BLMC would not exist.

(For those that think it doesn't exist, I point you to Cowley, and Lode Lane, different owners, but came via BL)

I'm in the other camp to many of you - I've always loved Beetles and 70s-80s Ford's, dislike the Focus and Mondeo.

I'd happily drive lots of oddball cars but I don't get the love for what I regard as modern - about 1990 onwards to me.

I like my Passat  but I don't think it's an exciting car.

Alfas can get in the sea too, there's not one that does anything for me.

I keep thinking of cars that don't appeal, then I find one that makes me think, heh.. I'd have that, that's a cool smoke.

I don't really like pre-war stuff, but then I love the idea of a pre-war hot rod.

I'm not a fan of British stuff of the 60's and 70's, except the ones I do like, the idea of a broadspeed liveried Dolomite has a LOT of appeal.

1990's Rovers I didn't really see the appeal of, but 800's  are looking fit these days, and I'd quite like to pretend I'm Tony Pond in a 620TI for a while.

I adore VW Beetles, but they're crap cars.  I don't know what the appeal is, but they're under my skin.

Not of a fan of Sherpa Vans.  But I'd still have one.

Fiats mostly but I wouldn't say no to a 131 or a 126 - just because.

I never saw the appeal of an Invacar until I drove The Rev at the recent FoD, I'd have one just because they are a bit mad/quirky/weird/hated.

Rolls Royces do nothing for me at all, not even a little bit.

I'm sure they're great to drive, just like MGBs are. It's just the ownership demographic that kills it for me. Old codger MGB owners, who can no longer cope with such things as lack of power steering and old British reliability, who buy MX-5s as an easy-to-maintain alternative. They are incredibly popular because of this, and bore me to tears, just like the 'B' I'm afraid.

What's nice about the MX5 is that they're cheap enough for pretty much anyone to buy and they are a whole heap of fun. I see an awful lot of 20-30yr old males driving MX5s around here. Admittedly usually lowered and fart can exhausts. But at least they're being driven in a style on what they were designed for.

I can see why people don't like a car because of the demographic, but I personally don't give a toss anymore. Why? Well if you do, you end up missing out on some great fun cars to drive.

Peugeot 403 powered by a soleless VAG lump

I mean if it was a fire spitting V8 or a creamy smooth 6-cyl then fair enough it's a bit different. But a humdrum engine from a family hatch that needs to be heavily sound proofed by it's manufacturer to hide it's horrible noise?

As above , things seen as super cars, mega expensive luxury stuff. Anything that costs a horrendous amount of money. Also mosy new cars on the market don't interest me unless they are quirky.

All 3 wheel Reliants. Horrible to drive, cramped, uncomfortable, you can't miss potholes because there are three tracks and when you do hit one all the electrics fail because theye are earthed by tying the wires onto the chassis with bits of string.

supercars, things like porsches, Ferrari  etc etc, you cant thrash them anywhere, bits fall off and they cost a bomb to maintain.... they just dont do anything for me

After working at a posh garage and seeing the reality of supercar ownership I can only agree. We use to see loads of classic Ferraris on their original tyres. 335 wide P-Zeros that had done less than 2000 miles being changed because they were 30 years old and perished.

The reality of supercars is they just don't get used.  What a waste of time.

Any Ford,no other mass produced cheap car seems to have the same scene tax.land rover, beetles.

Yep, this. 1.6 Orions going for a couple of grand, ridiculous.

The 80s stuff is hilariously overpriced (and as for the 70s stuff...) but the 90s stuff can still be had for buttons.

I don't understand the love for cars that were dismal in their day, for example Lada/FSO/Polonez/Yugo etc.

The FIAT 124/125 may have been considered a good car in its day, but by the time the Lada 1300 had been rebranded the Riva, it was so far out of date/fashion/style that it was just hopeless. Similarly the FSO 125, I drove a 1500 & it was a bigger slug than my 1256 Chevette, the controls were so heavy, it was so crude. I doubt that the Polonez re-body would have done it any favours. As for the woeful Yugo 45/55 - anyone else remember Samantha Fox advertising these on the telly, "Spoiler, sunroof, trendy white paint-job"? Again they were based on an ancient FIAT and were twenty years out of date, stuff like that simply wouldn't comply with regulations any more. When I first signed up on here someone bought a 45 with a Caramac interior, how we cheered him on... How we told him he was a winner... Would any other fucker take it off his hands when he wanted rid?

I appreciate what folk say about air cooled VW's, although Rovorsche says  earlier in this thread that they are 'stinky'? What do they smell of? But I enjoy using my T2 for camping where it is often the most interesting vehicle on the site. As with Mini's & Fords, there's a huge social scene and there's extensive spares back up, which makes them all easier to run than for example, my Vel Satis which has bog all support from Renault.

Rover Streetwises, R8s, 600s, Honda Accord Coupes - who on earth would spaff cash on those heaps of misery ? Oh, wait....

Seriously though,  Yank cars I kinda get, but wouldn't want one. Land Rovers just seem to be a world of pain so deffo runaway material for me. French cars don't quite tickle my fancy, but I suspect if I plonk my arse down on the seat of an 80s/90s one I'd 'get it'.

And, sacrilege o sacrilege - I just don't roll with Rover 800s at all.  They just don't do it for me for some reason. Naturally, I will have one at some point in time.

yeah that, i drove a lada 1500 not long after passing my test and it was just awful, steering felt it was 2 bits of string, engine gutless and felt like a lump of concrete, this was comparing it to mum's 89 proton 1.3 8 valve... things like morris shitals, austin allegros too.... they were shit in the 80's and time wont have made them any better, okay the rover sd1 was an exception... okay build quality was shit but it looked gorgeous and that v8....

as for fords, they were average, run of the mill cars, the jam butties of motoring in the 80's and 90's, yes the xr, rs and cossy were above average but comparing a xr or rs to a standard modern car and they were nothing special, yet anything with a ford badge and mot is worth a minimum of 3 grand... like wtf...... you can get cossy power and performance from under a grand by buying a gen 2 scooby leggy twin turbo, a decent cossy will set you back 15 bags
