Shite you just don't get the appeal of

Apologies if this has been discussed in the past, apologies if someone's nose gets put out of joint (this is not the intention of the thread).

There are a large number of vehicles I just don't get the hype about. But is there a reason why you don't get the appeal of certain makes and/or models. I don't care if I'm putting my neck on the block here as it's an opinion, and no opinion is wrong. I'm basing this on cars I have driven, and not some hypothetical bullshit I've made up reading reviews in magazines and on the interwebs.

I don't get the appeal of most Fords from the 1980's. I like the Sierra and the Mk3 Granada (the mk2 is a nice car to drive but I grew up with these being the ruffian's car of choice), but most of the others were pretty meh to drive to the point even most of my 6th form and early uni days pals thought my Horizon was a better car to drive despite the heavy steering. Ford at the time could flog you a dead horse. Wasn't until the Mondeo, Focus (despite having a shitty one 18 months ago) and boxy Fiesta they produced good as opposed to mainly lacklustre cars. When a Lad Samara feels like a better car to drive than an Escort, surely that means I'm either a true shiter or the Escort really was a pile of cack.

I don't understand the love for the R8, R3 and HH-R Rovers. The 600, 800 and 75 are wonderful cars to drive, the 200 & 400 series are cramped and uninspiring on the road.

Equally I can see other users of the forum not understanding why I have what's in my dream shite list.

Penny for your thoughts

There are plenty of so called shite cars I wouldn't entertain however I do get why some people would find them appealing, take the 2CV for example, charming things but not for me. Also old Mini's but again they have a huge following and I kind of get the following but again not for me on any day of the week. Add to that old Beetles and Moggys.

I think this thread is a bad idea. Just for the record.

Why do we need to air what we think about each other’s choices of car!? Keep it to yourself if you don’t have anything nice to say.

I've always desired a mantra, because not capri?

Surely cars only have to appeal to the person who owns and drives it?

What suits me and my lifestyle won’t appeal to some, same as their choices may not appeal or even suit me.

Working in the trade, I come out in a rash when I spot things like Laguna 2s, rotten Kas etc. Wouldn’t / couldn’t go near with what I’ve seen and experienced. There’s enthusiasts for em though.

Any Ford,no other mass produced cheap car seems to have the same scene tax.land rover, beetles.

Agreed, up until they did the Mondeo, Focus mk 1 and Fiesta mk 4.  Pretty much any Ford prior to this I drove was tedious in the extreme.  As has been said, it's only my opinion and an opinion is like a clitoris - every c***'s got one...  With you on the Beetle thing.  Hands down the worst thing I've ever driven.  How they ever sold that many of the things fuck alone knows.

How dare you not like 2CVs!!!! I’m personally offended as they’re my chod of choice.

Oh wait... you dare because everyone has different opinions and that’s what makes this site such an eclectic mix!

I’m glad not everyone likes 2CVs or Invacars or Hyundai Ponys...

Alfa’s

there ! I said it .

I don’t even think they look that good . I’m sure people think that because it’s an Alfa it looks good without forming their own opinions .

The ones I’ve driven ( mainly modern ish I suppose ) don’t drive or handle and better than loads of other hum drum family cars . And they all sound like a biscuit tin of keys when on a bumpy road .

Somehow I knew Rover R8s would be up there. Classic example of an acquired taste. I have discovered that there's pretty much no other car I can feel comfortable in though.

However I don't see the appeal of most Fords, VWs etc. I once drove a MK4 Cortina and it was horrid, yet I'd love a Lada of the same era.

I didn’t get mx5’s til I owned one for a summer

I'm sure they're great to drive, just like MGBs are. It's just the ownership demographic that kills it for me. Old codger MGB owners, who can no longer cope with such things as lack of power steering and old British reliability, who buy MX-5s as an easy-to-maintain alternative. They are incredibly popular because of this, and bore me to tears, just like the 'B' I'm afraid.
