DoctorRetro
Just totting up how this year has gone car wise. Started year with one car, ended year with one car. Let's figure out how much I've spent? Some 'man maths' involved as I'm going to disregard traveling and insurance admin fees, as well as other expenditure. Starting with. 1992 Toyota Corolla - sold for £450. Bought Rover 218D for £200. Running balance £250 Won BMW 320 in roffle. Running balance £250 Swapped BMW for Ford Galaxy. Running balance £250 4 Bought Mazda 323 via a loaned donation. Running balance £250. Sold Rover via roffle for £250 (in a round about way). Running balance £500. Sold Galaxy via roffle for £400 and sold Mazda for £100 less than the loaned amount. Running balance £800 Bought Nissan Almera for £120. Running balance £680 Sold Nissan Almera for £280. Running balance £960 Bought Rover 416GSi for £400. Running balance £560 Swapped Rover 416GSi for Perodua Kelisa. Running balance £560 Won Peugeot 306 in roffle. Sold Perodua Kelisa via roffle for £230ish. Running balance £790 Swapped Peugeot for Citroen AX. Running balance £790 Ok, so I've spent a lot on travel, repairs, parts and I've had to buy a new washing machine and tumble dryer this year, but I'd say that's been a successful year! scdan4, bangernomics, Broadsword and 7 others

DoctorRetro
And now for the 'why?' for each car. Understand these are my opinions only. Toyota Corolla - Carb was playing up. Auto box. Thirsty. Rover 218D - No idea, guess I thought I could do better. Regret letting this go. BMW 320 - I didn't like it, leather interior, thirsty. Ford Galaxy - Didn't get on with it. Maybe should have kept it. Also thirsty Mazda 323 - beyond my capability to fix Nissan Almera - Wouldn't rev very high without feeling choked, exhaust was like a jigsaw puzzle. Didn't trust it. Rover 416GSi - I killed it Perodua Kelisa - sold because I won a roffle. Second regret. Peugeot 306 - Didn't like it, leather interior, thirsty Citroen AX - I do still like it! scdan4 and yes oui si
DoctorRetro
French car in being quirky shocker! Rev counter stays at 3000rpm while engine on. Sometimes. Central locking that was intermittent is now fine. Both temperature gauge and fuel gauge wander around depending on the bends / bumps in the road. Love it! ? jumpingjehovahs, scdan4, Ohdearme and 2 others
scdan4
I’m sure my fuel gauge used to be top centre, it defo had about three quarters of a tank variance between left and right hand turns. Sounds like a decent year tbf, but you could have replaced all that with “Toyota Aygo”, but where would be the fun in that. ? Also, good spread of countries there, something Russian, yank or Australian next? bangernomics and DoctorRetro

DoctorRetro
Question... Does this AX share many components with this Peugeot 205 1.1 I owned a few years ago? The engine looks the same...
cobblers
The engine and gearbox are basically the same, but other than that not a lot is interchangeable - they're different platforms entirely, the 205 shares quite a bit with 306s. The brake calipers, wheel cylinders and shoes are parts bin stuff so will swap between all kinds of french stuff (the shoes are the same as on clios IIRC). Your front brake calipers are basically the same as what comes on the back of a 205/106 GTI.
Jim Bell
TU engines are pretty much in all pez Peugeot's built between 1980 and 2017 (ish). Every AX I've ever had (2 I think) has had a natural lean/tilt toward the driver's side. I just assumed they were worn on that side as most folk run them mainly as a driver only car so thered be more weight on that side consistently. But I know nothing about fuck all! loserone
Yeah, I really wouldn't fancy a C2 with the same engine, I bet they're twice the weight.

Early 205 had the suitcase engine used in Visa, 104, Samba, LNA. That engine was never in the AX. Visa 1.6i and Diesels had there front suspension turrets altered to take the 205 upright engines. The AX had the TU engine and some other components, but there was not wholesale twining of the cars. 106 and Saxo shares a lot.
DoctorRetro
I had a bit of a Facebook download yesterday, and grabbed some pictures of cars I've previously owned. Dick Longbridge
Love the Astra, Prairie, 121 and Acclaim. Didn't the Acclaim previously belong to Trigger? DoctorRetro
I got my partner to put some pictures together of before and after shots of the AX, because I'm really confused how me improving how it looks has upset some people. Bonnet is a temporary fix until I can get it done properly or replace it. Is it better to have streaky / scraped bumpers, scuffed & missing wheel trims and lacquer peel than to do something about them? I suppose when I repaint the window surrounds I'll be 'ruining' it too? privatewire, Craig the Princess and stuboy

Wingz123
I watched a video the other day on YouTube on one of these detailing channels where the guy used a DA and a polishing pad at a low speed to bring the black back on the dividing sections between the glass. I forget who it was otherwise I'd paste the link in. The window surrounds.....you could get wet and dry and go for chrome look if you really wanted to lol! BeEP
I'm not convinced by the bonnet, although it certainly doesn't look any worse, but in my opinion the wheels and bumpers are a definite improvement. Keep up the good work!. DoctorRetro

Jim Bell
Everyone has their own opinion. Doesn't make anyone right or wrong. I'd never paint a car because I prefer patina, but each to their own. It's your car. Craig the Princess
loserone
Yeah I think that's it - it was an eyesore, but it was sun damage. Now it's still an eyesore (IMHO) but it's by choice through painting. Meh. Also, @Jim Bell, don't I remember you eyeing up paint in Lidl for the Fabia's bonnet?
