quicksilver
So for the first time in over 18 months because of reasons I made it to one of the Wednesday evening gatherings at Earls Barton. Lots of cars there but I do think they need to either rename this event and remove 'classic' or be more selective about what they let in as it was only about 50% classics and the rest were moderns. Loads of Binis, modern Beemers and Audis, Japanese performance motors, slammed VWs and the latest supercars, so I walked straight past a lot of dross to find the occasional gem. In front of the Maxi was a brand new 19-reg Mazda 3 - what the heck was that doing at a show? Anyway, pics of some of the good stuff... BorniteIdentity
This is back again on Wednesday night coming (7th Aug). I’m planning on taking the Mini over - and @alf892 is using best endeavours to leave work promptly and be there too. If anyone else fancies it let me know and we can rendezvous! If you’ve never been, it’s definitely worth making the effort.
BL Bloke
I've had a look on Google maps and it's an hour and a quarter drive from me via the M6, M1 and A45. Sounds like a good opportunity to give the Rover a decent run out after its recent timing belt & water pump change, After all if a 19 reg Mazda can get in surely a Rover 45 will qualify. I presume you just turn up on the night, no booking necessary?

I presume you just turn up on the night, no booking necessary? They are very funny about what gets on the field. Even my Sierra was directed to the main parking before - causing me to nip through an open gate and back onto the field. If it was me, I’d bring the 205. The Mazda would have snuck on the same way I did!

It's only Monday so don't go tomorrow as there won't be much to do - the Earls Barton meet is always on the first Wednesday of the month. If you want to go somewhere tomorrow you could head to Classic Wheels at Willington, which is where we're going instead of Earls Barton this month. We had exactly the opposite experience re. filtering of classic / interesting vehicles. See abridged quote above. Some people seem to be under the impression that spending a lot of money on a new car automatically makes it interesting. Not to us it doesn't, and I imagine a lot of members of this forum would feel the same. We may go perhaps once a year from now on but not regularly unless the organisers get a bit more discriminating. Six-cylinder
I did go along this evening and why anybody thinks a 61 reg Ford Ranger or a 54 plate Range Rover should be in classic parking is beyond me. However I felt the few inappropriate cars were more than outweighed by the fantastic variety of great classic and interesting cars on show. I did enjoy the show very much. alf892, Dannyk, BorniteIdentity and 1 other 3

I have got used to skipping the dross at most car shows these days. Probably up to 10 or even 20% is OK, but when it starts to get near to 50%, as it did here last time we went, it gets a bit too tedious for me.
