Rover 45 Roffle brought to a close.

Recommended Posts

Things are a changing folks, the Rover of Smoothness has to go and I think a Rover Roffle is the way for this to happen.

You can see piccies of the car elsewhere on the forum but will try and post some as soon as I can over the weekend.

This is really a lovely car that has had some serious money spent on her over the last few years.

I have had a new rear section of exhaust fitted, a new brake caliper fitted to the N/S rear and it has had the CVT fluid drained and changed by the Rover specialist in St. Albans just a few months ago.  I had a new battery fitted when I bought her as well. She is a lovely smooth driving car, utterly comfortable too and she motors along beautifully. Quibbles? The heated seats don't work but seeing as the seats are velour fabric, that really isn't an issue.  A few giffer scuffs on the bumpers are present and there is a slight ding in the drivers front wing but I have a good wing that will come with the car.  The boot lid will sometimes come down unannounced but I was going to add a spring to the mechanism and see if it helped.  That's it really.  Mileage is around 58,000 or so. MOT till November I think. The old reg will come with the car and the current reg will be retained by me.  No OMG HGF/coolant loss/overheating issues whatsoever.

She is insured under a classic insurance banner by PBIS. This is a lovely, lovely car.

Roffle interest at £8 per number? Taxed to get you home.

If anyone wants to cross my palm with pound notes then £425 will see the car bought for cash tonite mate, no X boxes, sorry.

Put me down for a pissed up random please Ken, but as I've pm'd the folk doing the MGF & the W202 raffles, I'm away and totally off line on Monday for a fortnight.

I will be back, and I can be trusted for eight quid... And ten & twenty!

Please don't delay the drawer on my account.

I can't believe it's possible to win three cars whilst away on me jolly hollies!

Sadly I am in London.

I hadn't realised that this is near me.  Would it be possible to reverse engineer the Steptronic gearbox diagnostic protocol (it is a Steptronic right?)?

Which part of London are you at?

I'm pretty sure it's the same gearbox as the one called a Steptronic in an MGF.  I have had a few customers ask me for this but I've never been able to find a car to actually try it out.  Edmonton isn't too far from Ruislip.

That is really cool! Thanks for posting that :)

The Rover place bought stuff in especially for the change, the dipstick handle was broken so it made finessing the level a bit difficult. I got hold (eventually) of a replacement which I have reinforced as the handles go brittle with the engine heat and age. The level was a little low upon checking (only a tad though) and I topped it up using the correct spec stuff using the prescribed procedure after checking the various Rover forums (even though it is a different colour fluid, the spec is exactly the same and is a recommended fluid).  Shifting happens happily, although I have never used the 'sport mode'.

With the month of January nearing its end, the time has come to let go of the Galant. Its been an absolutely brilliant car while I had it, but with my move to Edinburgh approaching quickly, and the lack of space to actually store most of my cars anywhere (I'm sure theres nothing to worry about), this one needs to go. I've written plenty about the car before, if you want an extensive amount of photos you can check my general fleet thread here or check my cross European collection thread from December here.
If you can't be bothered, here are the details.
      1995 Mitsubishi Galant GLSi Hatchback
      1.8 4G93 petrol and a manual
Just 61k miles, I've put around 2000 of those on it myself over the last 3 months, with a trip to Germany and back again resulting in no real complications.
      MOT until June
In general, its in incredibly nice condition. As far as I know, it was granny owned and always garaged, with it not doing many miles at all over the last couple of years. It was then used by a family member since around May of last year, until I bought it in October. Its clear that its been well cared for, without any bodges or stupid modifications to be found at all, excluding the painted wheel trims and radio.
MOT history looks great, too. Its generally rust free but apparently did get a patch underneath a few years ago, which still looks solid. The bodywork looks great, with no damage or corrosion visible anywhere. There is however a giffer scrape on one of the corners of the rear bumper, and unfortunately, an H from the Mitsubishi lettering is missing. I've therefore deducted 500 quid of the actual market value from the asking price.
Mechanically it is very solid, too. The front tires show their age and the idle isn't where it should be (members of the Autoshite team have concluded after some collaborative fiddling that it might need a new coolant temp sensor, idle control motor (the one that opens the throttlebody) or something else. Fortunately everything is cheap and all components extremely easy to access so that should hopefully be a quick fix.
All of this is getting way too long so just have some pictures.

I might have to add that this happened on the Autobahn. Probably the fastest it ever went in its life.

And look how practical it is to boot!

I've set the ticket price to 7 quid which should be fair. I've got a strangely high number of people showing interest in this car so I'll just give everyone the chance to acquire it right here.
      Lets go!

This Citroen Visa was purchased at the weekend by five members of the forum, and is now up for a roffle.
      £10 a ticket
      £18 for two
      £27 for three
Car will be roffled on the bonus ball as normal. The current owner of the car is Wuvvum, who doesn't have an financial interest in it. No profit will be made, and surplus over the initial investment* (£500) will be passed on to the roffle winner to help with collection costs. Part owners may also buy tickets in the draw. The car has an MOT until 15th September.
More info here in the collection thread:

      Two other notes:
      - Roffle date will not be set until Wuv has the V5 back in his name
      - Car currently has a water leak which Wuv will be fixing before the new owner can collect.
      Off you go!
