Can confirm these are incredibly good on fuel and very pleasant to drive.

I haven't driven it long enough to know about the fuel consumption but that's good to hear - it's certainly a smooth running, quiet little engine - quite well suited to being an everyday family hatch.

In this spec, the stereo sounds pretty good as well, better than I remember the factory system in most Ford Escorts at the time.

I do prefer the styling of this MK1 Mégane over the facelift.

It's a bit unusual to hear about the wading capabilities of a family hatchback! Out of curiosity, how do you know? :)

Standing water deep enough to get the carpets wet ( not sure if through the doors or not) it was most unlike a French car and just kept going.

MPG wise you should see 40mpg generally, less on short runs. I never worked out why the smaller lighter Rovers I had afterwards were worse economy wise.

Are we playing cambelt roulette?

Entirely possible. It's been regularly serviced and MOT'd at the same garage for well over a decade so it's possible it has been done, all the receipts are there so will check and report back.

It reminds me of Shaun of the Dead. Is it the same model/colour?

A quick search (because I'm a bit sad like that!) Says that it was a red '96 RT specced car - same shape as this (pre-facelift).

Either way a randumb please.

Number 55 is yours!

I had one of these a couple of years ago, it had 50k and I knew the cambelt had not been done. It went bang after 6 months but was surprisingly nice to drive.

MOT exipires on the 18th May 2019. It's done 108 miles since the last MOT, so I think it'll pass! It'll be taxed to get you home. I'll put it through an MOT (£27 at the local Mr Clutch) if it sells out by 10pm Sunday 05/05/2019. Obviously I can't guarantee it will pass, but I truly believe that it shouldn't have a reason to fail having only done 108 miles since the last one!

If you want more pics, like engine bay, interior, boot etc - just ask!

Car is currently staying with me in Epsom, Surrey.

£6 a ticket works out to about £350 for the car. I'll add people in the order I get their requests, if two or more people ask for the same number before I update the list, I'll keep a random aside for you (if available) until you confirm if you want it or not. Roffle is on...!

Just quoted this bit here for the record, as now dropping the price to £4 a ticket or £250 outright and have edited the original post. Also booked in for an MOT on Friday! It should pass, but I can’t guarantee it.

I thought this would have gone by now but I need it to happen by Wednesday 15th May as I have to travel for work.

For anyone who has tickets already, please do let me know if you want more!

3 ramdons please. This car looks sweet!!

Hopefully the mot is pain-free

Yeah, I hope the MOT comes back clean. It's barely moved since the last one, so unless something has massively deteriorated over that year (nothing I can see from a cursory visual check), it should go through. It's booked in for 8:30am Friday morning at Leatherhead Formula 1 autocentres, so lets see if they pass it...  :) (at £29 it's a couple of quid more than Mr Clutch, but still cheaper than the £54-odd that  a lot of other garages still insist on charging)

Your new numbers are: 2, 24 and 39! Bonne Chance!

This looks a right gem for someone, I'm tempted myself but we have too many vehicles here and I need a estate car. Hope this finds a good home as I think these MK1 Meganes are great looking cars.

I think someone will be getting an absolute steal. Just waiting on the MOT results on Friday, I think the short MOT scared some people off (as rightly said by loserone)  but by booking that and dropping from £6 to £4, interest has really picked up! I reckon it'll fly through, all prior advisories have been pretty much for minor consumables.

I've had two Renault 19's myself which the Megane shares it's DNA with. A 1.9 NA Diesel and a 1.4 Petrol and both were cheap / easy to maintain and also reliable.  I think these are the last of the proper simple's Renault's like the MK1 Laguna.  So whoever wins shouldn't have to break a sweat if it does need something and given the money and condition it still a bargain either way.  All the best with the Roffle and the Mot Friday will watch with interest.
