Windows XP has five years worth of unpatched vulnerabilities.  Doesn't matter what "security software" you install - which is probably also now unsupported, like Firefox on XP is - chances are if you connect it to the internet, you're one of the people hosting dDoS attacks, and being used as a pivot for anonymity when undertaking nefarious activity.  Sorry!

My copy only stopped receiving patches 2 weeks ago!

But don't worry, chill those beans, plans are afoot for full windows 10 loveliness, no more botnets for the Six_Cylinders

Until I show Mrs6c how to browse the Internet on Windows 2000...

Surely that depends on where you go on the internet?  If you're just using an XP machine to browse AS and BBC News I would imagine you'd be OK.  Obviously if you start visiting dodgy Russian porn sites it might be more of an issue.

Not really, the OS is exposes vulnerable services by default.  At one stage it was possible to build an XP machine (prior to SP2 I seem to recall) and if it was connected to the internet there was so much malicious traffic it could be compromised before you had even had a chance to finish the install.

Use the "Request desktop version" menu in your web browser

Ahhh, that's better, that's back to more like it was before. I didn't understand what you meant the first time you said that but I've just figured it out.  This also fixes the other (very small) gripe I had. Tapping the screen twice then dragging your thumb to zoom in and out doesn't work on the mobile site but it still does on the desktop version. So I can hold the phone in one hand, scroll down and zoom in and out of pictures and have the other hand free for eating pasties and other baked goods. First World problems eh.

The main page with all the thread titles is much better on desktop too. Much happier now. Cheers.

this one is a bug report rather then a slight niggle, but i noticed when typing up a message/response etc you eventually lose the ability to navigate the text being typed up with the arrow keys

it works initially but then it stops working after a little bit, im not sure if something is triggering it, but yeah just making the bug aware :)

Could you explain? Thanks

In the bar at the top of your phone on the far right are three dots, probably. Mine has anyway, it's an android phone. Click them and you get a drop down bar with several options. One says desktop. Press it and voila.

Wierdly though, pressing 'reply to topic' it has repeated my previous thread in its entirety above. Tried several times but it came up every time. Only way to get rid would be to delete it manually which would be inconvenient.

AT LAST!!!

This mobile version has been killing me to the point that I'd half given up trying to navigate my way around. I always used the desktop version on my mobile in the previous incarnation, and have been trying (to no avail) to do the same with this new, posh version.

Finally I can actually find my way around , using a desktop version!

Sadly that screws up all the other sites I use as my crappy old Nokia can’t cope with different settings for different sites. Not the end of the world though.

I now have access to the tapatalk site owner's page. I've reconfigured the plugin. On my phone it's just spinwheeling when I attempt to load posts. Can anyone else let me know if it's working for them?

Just getting this

Just a tweak - and teh apolZ if it’s been asked already - on the old mobile version when you clicked on a thread, it automatically went straight to the first unread post. I’d kinda got used to that and had started liking that feature. Can the new forum do that? Or is it not doing it because I’m also stuck in the mobile/desktop version wormhole?

iOS and Safari here.

Indeed.  What fun THAT was when installing new kit into primary school admin offices...!

I love the idea of the new theme, however the colour contrast for my eyes makes it unreadable. The old black on brown was fine to read, but the new dark brown on light brown causes my dyslexic eyes to merge the lot together.

Here is the new site vs the old site (also partly here for prosperity):

Is there any way of turning the rich text/WYSIWYG text editor so we can go back to the plain text version? Not sure if you have an option in the Admin panel to enable the switch to allow a user to change it. On the old version you could do both.

I much prefer entering it in plain text and adding the bbcodes where needed.

You can still use bbcode, it's "plain text" although it's using a headline font for some reason which CdC is looking into on the theme side of things.

For example, I've not touched any buttons at the top but I can still use code to do bold etc. I think that's pretty similar to how it used to be?

However the tag then disappears when you try editing. Also when uploading images, they get all inserted inline and a right pain in the arse to try to reposition compared to moving [ img] tags around.
