That'll be the search service I mentioned earlier going through a restart. Starts at 0415 UTC and takes about 60s. 

I chose that time as it's the quietest time on the site. However our antipodes friends, like yourself, are more likely to see it. 

Before Cloudflare, the site would just be slow. Now Cloudflare tries to be helpful* by telling you the site is down instead.

I still do a little bit of legacy code support on the side and one of the sites (with not a great deal of traffic) saw everything tail off recently. Did some digging and the hosting peeps had shifted over to a Cloudflare setup and the guy's code has some antediluvian SEO URL re-write code that was really dragging.
Cloudflare just kept telling visitors 'site down' repeatedly so, they all went away

why can't I (or how can I) import Heic pics? I am finding trying to convert the pics from my iphone to jpeg extremely tiresome

Apparently most iPhones should auto convert to jpeg on upload.

Interestingly it appears sometimes it becomes a black image that some have had happen.

HEIC I think is only supported on Safari. So conversion is a necessity as a large proportion of users aren't using Apple devices.

Can't see anything in the logs. Problem is if Cloudflare can't connect to the server or it takes too long then it'll show the error above. Because of the way the internet works, it could be that the routing between Cloudflare and the hosting provider is interrupted but other links would work. But as everything goes through Cloudflare it bombs out. Also a brief blip wouldn't be so obvious if it times out unlike Cloudflare throwing an error up.

Mine didn't convert when I downloaded the pics with a USB cable. I find my pc laptop extremely difficult to use because I am used to Old Apple filing systems. Modern stuff just seems to pic a random picture to open.

I think they get converted when uploaded on your phone directly to a website using the phone browser.

if your using a Mac, then you can right click an image, go to quick actions, convert image, and quickly convert it to JPG that way  

also if you copy photos off the iPhone with the Universal clipboard feature to your Mac (if your Mac is new enough to support that feature) then it will automatically convert them to JPG as they are copied across

are you sure about that? an iPhone modern enough to take HEIC pictures wont be supported by any PowerPC G4 based mac, and on the older OS's that HIEC iPhones are supported on, Image capture automatically converts the images to JPG's anyhow

I have done, I had a while where I couldn’t see PM messages but worked on every other site.

I’ll do the standard removal and reinstall but I am on a beta release of iOS which may be affecting the keyboard interpretation? Fine as long as no numbers.

With beta versions of iOS then all bets could be off. I'm on Android so it's going to be very different on the Tapatalk app but suggests the server side of both Tapatalk and here should be fine. The Tapatalk plugin on the forum is the latest and hasn't been updated by them for years.

Yeah I noticed that. News 24 Thread for me doesn't have a star to say I've posted in there. Yet I've posted in there loads over the years.

Not quite sure why it's decided to do that. Presumably a bug Invision managed to put in on the last release. Or maybe if you've not posted in there for a while it'll not put a star?

I've noticed a bit of an annoying behaviour where if you upload a bunch of images to the post editor, embed a few of them and then submit the post, it will then dump-embed all of the unused images at the bottom of your post. It can be a little bit confusing and embarrassing having random photos tagged on to the end of a post.

To remove it you have to edit the post, delete the embedded images AND delete them from the upload section (otherwise they reappear).

Not sure if that's intended behaviour, but I personally would have expected the unused images just to be deleted.

It's always done that - can be useful rather than having to tap each image to put it in the post

It's not an option that I can see be changed on the admin panel. I frequently come across this. 

It does have a big advantage though as if you're uploading a photo dump from a show (which is common on here), you don't need to individual add each photo into a post. So even if there is an option, it'll be annoying for others that like to put a large stream of images into a post.
