VAG 20vt lickers

Wife has a daily aged 20vt MK4 golf GTi. I'm about to renew the ccv pipework and valve. These are available as a kit pretty cheaply and plentifully on the internet. HOWEVER! The valve on its own doesn't seem to be available as a pattern from the usual suspects (mahle etc) and genuine OEM from TPS is £80 odd fucking pounds!!! Bearing in mind the ECU takes fueling info from the vented boost channeled back through this valve would anyone in their right mind fit a cheap copy? Advice lads please (almost feel like I've answered my own question)
