Steve79 fleet - RX300

Recommended Posts

Enquiries are proceeding with regard to the Lincoln MK Vii.

Its a 1988 Bill Blass model with the 225bhp 5.0 High Output engine from the Ford Mustang.

The word from the selller is that the torque converter is dead and the car doesn't move in any gear.

Good news is that its a VERY good price.

I'm going to speak to JPAT transmissions in the morning to see what a refurb will cost.

Oh wow, I would love to compare this with one of my Mark VIIIs sometime! Happy to assist wherever I can, Im not too experienced with the Mark VII but its all more or less the same anyway. The AOD auto was stuffed in pretty much anything Ford/Mercury/Lincoln that came with a V8 so you should be able to source a replacement faily easily, even here in the UK.

Do you know if its still on Airride?

  • Steve79 changed the title to Steve79 fleet ramblings - DELIVERY FRED INCOMING!!!

The Lincoln purchase went down the drain when after further investigation it was more likely the box rather than the converter was terminally borked.

However, not to be dissuaded from further financially disastrous purchases, a fine example of early 90's luxo barge has been sourced and is being delivered today via an outsourced delivery by @worldofceri.

All i'll say is i'm a serial licker of these and it has Mr Cholmondley-Warner living in residence inside the dashboard.

More to follow

It’s the V6 3.0 RT formerly of @Schaefft and @catsinthewelder

Its only just been delivered and it disgraced itself by failing to start when being loaded. Investigation work will have to wait till tomorrow though.

Lovely old thing, I drove it up here from Mk for cats to pick it up, had an issue with it not starting found out if you keep the key in the crank position for a few seconds it sorts itself out,  Is it not cranking or not firing?

Andy who delivered it on behalf of Ceri said that it was showing signs of life but not firing.

Rich said that it was running fine yesterday and this morning but didn't want to fire when loading onto the trailer this afternoon.

I know (because 90's Reno) that you have a 30sec period from the point of unlocking on the plip to starting the engine. If this elapses then you need to lock and unlock the car again before you can start the engine.

If its not this then we'll need to look deeper into it.

Safrane is having a massive strop and resolutely refuses to crank whatsoever.

The immobilisor light goes out so its recognising the keys but when you go to crank it doesn't do anything apart from the lights goes dim until you release the key.

The general consensus is that:

1: Earth strap corrosion which judging by how badly the brakes are seized could well be a possibility

2: Borked starter which is just as possible.

Also the voice synth isn't outputing any noise. @catsinthewelder i know you said you turned it off. Did you disconnect the speaker?

Apart from this thr car is in good shape. Just disappointed i can't drive it ☹

It was definitely cranking yesterday, it started briefly but cut out when I tried to put it in gear.  It's been sat for a while but I left it in park with the hand brake off.  Have you tried charging the battery?  I charged it before I started yesterday then when it wouldn't fire up straight away we connected up to the Focus with jump leads and left them on while we tried.

I think I just pressed a button to shut Mr Cholmondly Warner up, I certainly didn't disconnect anything at the time but one of the speakers from under the dash is in the boot from trying to get the bonnet open last week.

I've left it with the garage at the moment as i'm flat out with work. If it get chance at the weekend then i'm going to chuck the new battery i bought for the saab on it and see what it does.

@SiC good shout ref the battery cable, i'll give it a go.

Mate did say he put a jump pack on there but no dice, zero crank. Hopefully a new battery will sort it. A 75AH is going on it.

About the bonnet not opening: I did have that issue before and replaced the crusty bonnet locks with replacement ones which worked perfectly. I originally had to have a second person pull the bonnet release while pressing down on the bonnet itself to make it pop,  the locks might just need to get greased up again. I can't remember the car having starting issues although the immobeliser might have caused issues in the past, make sure to lock the car first after connecting the battery before unlocking and starting it, otherwise the car thinks you broke into it. Having a properly charged battery or a decent battery jumper is the very first thing you would try though, the battery might just be dead from sitting so long. And yes, there is a button to deactivate the diagnostics voice.

  • Steve79 changed the title to Steve79 fleet ramblings - Totally lost the plot!

After the immense rollicking I received from MrsSteve79 for buying yet another shite car in form of the Safrane (an update will come soon I promise) i was, in no uncertain terms told that having two cars on the drive and the safrane, saab and work van parked in the street was the absolute limit.

She, however failed to factor in the spare spaces on MotherSteve79's drive and garage 😂

Idle hands make the devil's work so i kept them busy by looking for things I don't need/shouldn't buy on Facebook marketplace.

The busy hands got out of control and bought this

Because two weeks ago we bought this soppy bugger

Now this is entirely the dogs fault as i've been going back and forth in my head about selling the saab over the last few weeks trading the speed of the saab for the practicality of an estate.

I'm usually sceptical of any cheap car on  Facebook, let alone from a used car dealer so the journey across town was made with low expectations.

The dealer mostly had 3 year old vehicles on site and i was pleasantly surprised by meeting a car salesman that did not specialise in bullshit and was very upfront and honest.

The car had been driven to bristol from okehampton yesterday for px and was getting punted straight on with no prep as its too old for forecourt.

It's a 2006 Titanium with the 2.0 Tdci, 6-speed manual box and 155k on the clock.

I thought the seats had been replaced with blue ones but it turns out these are original.

Bodily its a 20 footer and certain areas have had a blow over in the past which haven't been done terribly well.

I was chucked the keys and took it for a blast. It actually drives really well. It pulls through all the gears fine with no noises from the dmf and all the electrical bits are fine.

Aircon, heated front screen, cruise, auto lights and wipers and leccy windows all round.

I couldn't get the bonnet open as the lock mech is missing so that'll need sorting and the mot is out on 1st Sept.

The bonus is that the service book was in the car and is fully stamped up to date.

I reckon it could be made reasonable tidy for minimal outlay and will look 10x better inside once it's been cleaned as its complete filth.

I'm happy playing bargain basement roulette
