Peter C
Whilst having my Boxster MoT’d today I had a chat with my tester friend who showed me this: It’s a front wishbone off a 57 reg Corsa. It’s completely rotten. Apparently in recent months he’s picked up a lot rusty Vauxhall suspension parts. If you are lucky enough to have a 12 year old Vauxhall go and check your suspension. The Boxster sailed through the test, by the way. Squire_Dawson, RayMK, lesapandre and 7 others
beko1987
Someone on here had their daughters newish car (to them) do that I think The ones on amys Zafira are fine. I know this because I've looked at them, something I imagine the owner of that wishbone hasn't done for many years! lesapandre
Wack
I guess the corsa bill will be less that the subframe on a Maserati Quattroporte though Burnside, SiC, Sigmund Fraud and 3 others
GrumpiusMaximus
Wasn't there a warranty scheme for Corsa subframes at one point?
Angrydicky
Nothing new there! Perhaps hard to see in my crappy photo, but one of the front spring cups on my Vauxhall Royale has rotted through almost the entire circumference. Its obviously a weakness on the S1 struts as the other side had already been replaced by the previous owner due to the same thing. And yes, I might not have noticed had the spring not broken...At least my car is 40 years old rather than 12! lesapandre and Dick Longbridge

Split_Pin
By the time you get to 20 year old Corsas it's the bottom arm tearing away from the rotten chassis that you have to worry about...... Dick Longbridge

Much like my 27 year old carlton..... it’s no where near as bad as the corsa in question! Angrydicky and Dick Longbridge

Timewaster
That is testament to the longevity of Vauxhall ball joints and bushes. If it was a 90s Escrot or Fiesta then it would be on its 4th set of lower arms by now tooSavvy, RobT, beko1987 and 3 others

Isaac Hunt
Fair point, although nothing new. When I were a lad, mate of mine's Dad rocked up with a PA Cresta. I was only 10 at the time, but was a dab hand at bike repaints using Holts Dupli Colour and an avid reader of Car Mechanics where many a car wing or arch was repaired using aluminium mesh and a blob of wag. I spotted straight away, being the master of the Dupli. Colour that that there Cresta wasn't quite as it left the factory. I remember thinking that the paint finish was not up to my standard and you could see the wag all over the shop. The car started dissolving on a daily basis, a couple of days of rain and half of it could be seen floating down the gutter. I remember commenting to my Dad and he said, Vauxhall you see son, rust buckets.
Wack
That's how i was when I had that Maserati 4200 , strange noises were blocked out by the radio, when that packed up I perfected driving with my elbows so I could la la la with my fingers in my ears bangernomics and paulplom
Sigmund Fraud
That is testament to the longevity of Vauxhall ball joints and bushes. If it was a 90s Escrot or Fiesta then it would be on its 4th set of lower arms by now +1, also the case for all small and medium sized VAG cars built between the mid-90s and mid-00s ! lanciamatt
I work for vauxhall and the early corsa D didn't have a problem with rusty suspension really, but the later ones are terrible we have had 11 plates with rotten front sub frames. Holes size of fists in them.
