Micra...dot dot dot...dash dash dash...dot dot dot.

Recommended Posts

So, about a week ago, with very little time on my hands, i had to make a quick "Dash" over to Surrey(approx 100 mile round trip, from my part of Kent) in order to view/tyre kick/haggle/buy this little early 1993 K11 Nissan Micra Dot.

With less than 21 000 original miles showing, an in bloody good nick, i had to pounce on this little beauty.

Its not my usual type of purchase, an the opposite to my prefered mode of transport(pre 2000 Volvo estate) but since my son got given an R. Reg. K11 3 months ago, ive been on the lookout for one myself, since ive been "scudding" about in his little Micra.

Looking back, ive probably paid too much for this Micra Dot...but i cant lose money on it either. Its a good "1st time Micra owner" to start off with, having never bought/owned one of these before.

Some pics. cheers Paul.

Spotted this one on Gumtree the other week. I don't think it was a lot of money really - the pics in the ad made it look immaculate.

Well bought

Cheers, yeah it was on Gumtree.

It has had some paint(drivers side rear quarter, passenger side front wing, lower door etc.) but thats to be expected, given its approx 26 years old.

2 front tyres are new, as is battery...it will need 2 rear tyres though, they look like the originals!!! side walls are cracked some.

MOT'ed to November, seems to drive ok, followed my daughter home, 65 to 70 MPH, with no drama.

No bloody power steering though!

Ooooo. Early k11. They did look much better before the face lift. Well done man.

Thanks for that, yeah, i like the look of the early k11's...Here it is next to my youngest sons K11, His is a bit bashed (bodywork) but since it was a gift(from a non family member, the lucky swine!!!) then no complaints from him. MOT'ed, 4 new tyres, new battery, no rusted door sills/floor/front cross member etc. 51 000 miles...he was well pleased.

Just put 37psi in the fronts and stock up on Weetabix.

Yeah, the old - "over inflate the front tyres, to compensate for lack of power steering trick"...Im already on it. ;-)

I do like a good bowl of Wheetabix too, so im taking all measures required.

A colleague has recently had a Micra of this era MOT'd but the MOT was cut short and the car condemned due to rust!

These do rust out in certain areas, such as - door sills, floor, front cross member, an anywhere else too?

Too bad about your colleagues micra "biting the dust" though.

ISTR the interior was immaculate and resplendent in all its grey-ness, so post up some porn shots of that please.

Yeah, the interior looks super cool, drivers side door card a little grubby(for now) so i took a pic of passenger side panel/card. I think the Micra Dot was a limited edition, so the door cards/panels might be better than basic standard ones? Ive also seen a Blue Micra Dot sell on ebay recently, so i guess they did blues an reds?

K11! One of my fave cars (after Rover 800s of course) got 2 in sense.

Ma_Sterling has had her facelift K11 for years (since about late 1999). Recently, I won a later K11 in a roffle for Sis_Sterling. I really should get one myself.

Love how clean yours is. Original everything including floor mats. Can't be bad. The door cards can discolour, Ma's Micra had discoloured dior cards at the top. Easy to change trim on them which I did and it made the interior look a treat.

Cheers for that. There certainly seems to be a following for the K11's...Im relatively new onto the K11 scene myself.

I think i was being over critical on drivers side door card, a light clean should be all it needs. The rubber floor mats have micra on them, so i guess they could be the originals?...The car sticker in the rear window also looks like it could be orignal too. - "Nissan Micra Car Of The Year 1993.

Without knowing how much it was, you haven't paid too much if you like it and are happy with it. Looks lovely.

Cheers, as you say...price is irrelevant...an with what i shall save in petrol bills per year(use the car as a commute) car will pay for itself soon enough. ;-)

Very nice. I can remember when they were new...at the time some of my teenage friends were experimenting with psychedelic drugs... and I always wondered whether Nissan's marketing team were aware of the "street" use of the name.

I was never a fan of these, but we picked one up for my wife in October and I quite like them now. It's just basic no frills motoring.

Ours is one of the last pre coil pack models on a W plate, with a dent in the side and a cracked rear bumper, so nowhere near as clean as yours. We do have power steering though, what a luxury!

I always thought they were wonderful little cars. They, along with the Polo 6n, were the only really robust little hatch backs from the 90's. They were really the only 2 small 90's hatches you see on the roads with any frequency any more.

Not quite sure why there is much more Micra love on here than Polo love. Really very similar little cars. Maybe it's just the VW badge...

Love these.

Pretty much all of my mates drove them in my yout'. Weirdly they all performed differently, the higher mileage ones seemed to be the fastest, presumably as they loosened up! One of the lads had a mint green one that reached 150k, it was properly rapid for what it was.

Fond memories of them conking out when going through deeper puddles, bonnets up WD40 at the ready and off again :)

Im trying to think of the other "special editions"

There was the:

Micra Dot (1993)

Micra Wave (1994)

Micra Hollywood (1995)

Micra Ally & Micra Vibe (1996)

Micra Passion & Micra Equation (1998)

Micra Ally & Micra Twister (1998)

Micra Inspiration (bAse) & Micra Mystique (flip paint) (1999)

Micra Celebration (2000)

Micra Activ (2001)

Micra Tempest (2002 - run out of K11)

I think ( apart from the S & Sport models) thats all the "specials".

Thanks...Shit, im glad you didnt quote/link the last microdot meaning in that link!!

By god thats lovely.

Thanks.

Exactly, just basic bare bones no frills motoring...puts a smile on the face though, an thanks.

No power steering on these is a bonus. Great steering feel.

Ours was a S-reg 1.0 basic one. Didn't have it long due to rust. Bought for peanuts though.

Yeah, i think the no power steering, is more of a "Shit, i will have to adjust my line, going through that corner". Within 5 minutes, you get used to it easy enough.

Holy Frick. That's clean as a pin!

Very well bought. It looks like a cheerful place to be (on the outside) while also being comfortably depressing (on the inside).

I wouldn't kick that out of bed for farting on me.

I try to keep a clean car(for the most part)...Whilst im on the inside, no depression, just chuckle to meself.

No power steering ? On a Micra ? OMG ! You poor thing.

I thought shiters were used to crawling under cars

and being a bit chunky. Seems I may be wrong.

Get a Bullworker.

Bullworkers are for girls............My chunky days are over, im all washed up. "Mr punyverse" nowadays.

No more force feeding/eating every 3 hours...no more power naps...no more training 4 times a week...no more decades of Squats/Deadlifts/Bench. ;-).............................I think i might just cope with no power steering.

I've recently come around to these and that looks superb. I really wish I'd grow up and be sensible and buy something like this, sadly that won't ever happen.

Can I just say I bloody love that COTY sticker too?

Cheers, Im kinda new to these to...an yeah, that sticker looks the part.

Here is Ma's Micra lurking behind the Vectra:

Roffle Micra:

Love them both, great cars.

I like that blue, that they used on those micras...even the grey one looks nice.

Back in the day, i wouldnt have looked at a micra twice, especially up against a nice VW...things change though.

Love these.

I must admit, those mint green ones look good...i also like the purple ones too...TBH, given the choice, i wouldnt have picked the colour red...but you dont get to pick colours, when you buy an old 2ndhand car.

The Equation was the base model. It didn't even have a name plate/sticker at the back like the rest of the models. Got a pic of a White one I saw way back in Selly Oak.

The 'Ally' (ala: Ma_Sterling's Micra) only ever came out on the late 1997 facelift model. Great thing about Micras is that you can 'up-spec" them quite easily with very little work.

I got rear parcel shelf with speakers and A-pillar mounted tweeters from a scrap SR model. Fitted all within less than an hour. Rear under window trim changed for one with pockets, again from a higher spec model and less than hours work.

Excellent, it's stuff like that I love seeing. Mats are indeed original. Hard to come by. I got original K11 JDM Nissan "March" mats in the blue one with rubbers on top for winter.

I was seriously looking at a micra before I went for the zx... Not sure why as I've never been fond of them but they do look like fun

Sorry, i missed your quote before, but i had a lot to multiquote  They are a bit of fun(Micras)...a bit like driving an old mini, sort of.

My sons white micra(in the pic above) is a 1998 (R.Reg) Equation...as you say, nothing to say its an equation, but i think it says equation on the logbook. He has already asked me to keep an eye out for him, for the parcel shelf with the rear speakers in!! As you say, all the parts are interchangable...and i think it will be a great car for him to learn about cars. He has only just turned 17, so he will learn a lot owning his own car...next step, get his provisional, an driving lessons.

You're in Kent innit? Got a speakered' parcel shelf that needs re-homing. Can probably chuck at Wingz who may well be collecting some floor mats for another Kent-based shiter.

Yes mate, im 6 miles outside of Maidstone in Kent.

That is a generous offer right there...let me know when he(Wingz) plans on visiting Kent, then i will try to meet up with him on the arranged day. Failing that, if he drops the parcel shelf at the Kent based shitters home, then i will get there to collect ASAP.

I will tell my son, he's young, "sounds" mean a lot to "the young".

Cheers Paul.
