abelw44
Right then, time to have a go at a thread on my latest acquisition, methinks.Back on January 30th, I made the mighty voyage ooop north (relatively speaking) to meet Hooli, a top shitter who'd agreed to sell me his navy blue XJ8 Sovereign.Exhibit A: My best attempt at WoollardingThe journey was, surprisingly it being a jag, entirely uneventful, it simply wafted its way all the way back to my workshop where it now resides. So far all I've done is a service, but the to do list so far is:- Sort out driver's heated seat- Sort out parking sensors (She's a big old barge....)- Investigate the odd knocking noise and slight slipping of the auto 'box- Source appropriate locking wheel nuts- Sort the rust! With regard to rust, the driver's side front wing is a complete write off, with the passenger side heading the same way. Thankfully these are bolt on, so minimal fuss in replacing once the parts have been found. Unfortunately, the rear wings are also beginning to suffer from the Norwegian Chrome somewhat, so they'll need to be replaced at a later date too.I did get it up on the ramp (with my fingers firmly crossed) to inspect the underside, here are the results:Not too bad! It's mostly very solid, the underseal having done its job, which is splendid. That's all for now, but I hope to keep this thread updated, can't promise updates won't be sporadic though!abelw44 abelw44, Dirk Diggler, Sudsprint and 21 others
Bazfr69
Lovely old thing. I’d be well chuffed swanning around in that. I don’t think I’ve got the wardrobe to pull it off though. abelw44

I don’t think I’ve got the wardrobe to pull it off though.I think it must be a case of acquiring the wardrobe to go with it, so looks like I've got to go out shopping for tweed jackets, light coloured chinos and Merino wool sweaters .. Along with an obligatory box of cigars of course! Sent from my TA-1024 using Tapatalk Bazfr69
TheClutchBasketPodcast
Top purchase! The sight of 'brown' after putting it on the ramp is always a bit worrying but nothing a bit of Hammerite can't solve/hide. I am really becoming interested in luxurobarges these days. Must be a sign that I am not as ripe as I once was.

richardthestag
awesome, of course I would say top bombing. Kind of miss the drive but not the distractions from doing what I am supposed to be doing It is indeed a smooth ride. Though I did find it strange looking up at MX5s as I wafted past on the M5/M4 pleased to see that Fatha Thestags skuffs on the front bumper are still there. abelw44

Ohdearme
Hooli obligingly pocked me up from the station in the Jag when I’d won the roffle Saab...the dark blue makes it a decent 100 yard car but I did notice on approach there was a quite large amount of fresh air where the wing ought really to be! Fine old beast though and I’m jealous of the extra 800cc you have there.
Broadsword
I’ve seen this Jag in person, looked like it could brought back cosmetically. Better to have the grotty bits on top and solid underneath rather than the other way round! If you can score a couple of wings in the right colour, you will have made a big difference. The paint code is by the bonnet hinge. As for the gearbox I guess the best bet is getting the transmission fluid flushed out by a specialist and see how it goes. Good luck. The 4.0 V8 goes really well.

Cheezey
That looks lovely. I feel I have unfinished business with an XJ after my six cyclinder 4.0 Sovereign. This isn't helping.

abelw44
Right then chaps, Missed out on the forum bike XJ6 roffle? Fear not! You can scratch that Jag itch, and have an extra 800CC of bragging rights down the pub to boot! A substantial lifestyle review has lead to an unpleasant decision - the Jag has got to go! Up until now, I've been driving a miserable V**xhall C*rsa to facilitate nursing the Jag along which isn't fun. I've decided I'd much rather find the middle ground of dailying something interesting that I like, but that isn't as financially crippling as Wafty McBargeface. So, she's up for sale again. In my ownership, she made the trip down from Doncaster to just outside Oxford without a hitch, wafted like a dream!Since then, she'd done nothing except have a good service, so I was hoping I might get about 800 quid back for her? As far as I know, everything works except the heated seats, air con and parking sensors (The middle two of which need replacing, as they're not making their little ticking noise anymore) and the heated windscreen. The gearbox is a little bit finicky and slips when cold resulting in slightly jerky low speed manoeuvres. But once she's warmed it, up goes a treat and the gearbox works just fine.Other than that, it's lovely and you absolutely want it. Sink into those glorious leather armchairs and have that silky smooth 4.0 litre V8 shove you down the road like your late for a diplomatic meeting and you'll never want to drive anything else again... or something like that. Until you get to the petrol station, anyway. Here are some pictures for drooling over (Hopefully Hooli won't mind me reusing his, it hasn't changed): There we are! I might roffle it if that's where we end up, but I'd much rather an outright sale Ta!abelw44 Dan_ZTT, LightBulbFun, eddyramrod and 2 others
abelw44
I'll even throw in a cigar for the potential buyer to puff on as they waft away, if that sweetens the deal? £800 for a big Jaaaag and a Montecristo? What more could anyone reasonably ask for? *Tweed jackets, lairy chinos and other Jaaag driver apparel not included Sent from my TA-1024 using Tapatalk 83C and Dan_ZTT
Dan_ZTT
Ahhhhhh. I can't justify an outright buy but I'd have a roffle ticket if it goes that way.
abelw44
Ahhhhhh. I can't justify an outright buy but I'd have a roffle ticket if it goes that way.You won't have to justify it once you've bought it, because by then you'll be a Jaaaag driver... If it roffled it would end up being £13/14 per ticket - I can't imagine there's be much interest in that? abelw44
Fair enough, I shall set up the roffling kit and kaboodle this evening then. I'm afraid I think it's a no on the classic insurance front, because it's not old enough (only a 2000 car) but don't quote me on that Sent from my TA-1024 using Tapatalk loserone

flat4alfa
Assume these can go on classic insurance? They will be sniffy, but if you are a JDC JOC member they will do Had same with the Rover 75. Was much cheaper to to pay annual membership than sink it into the insurance Ohdearme
