This whole ULEZ bollocks is sad, isn't it? Overnight a load of interesting cars removed from the clean* area in favour of something preferred by Khan. I bet the old dear who's owned this for the last 31 years is gutted her charismatic old French steed has to go through no fault of her own. Madness.

It is a disease that is spreading. Here in Spain they are also popping up in the planning of what will be our future.

Ruined Ami.  Not an Ami Super as claimed either. Another dreamer in over his head I suppose.

I am not one for “man-cave wall art”, but this appeals, is local and £60.

Image 1 - Renault Clio 1.4 RT MK1 1994 58k Spares/Repairs/Donar Car

Renault Clio 1.4 RT MK1 1994 58k Spares/Repairs/Donar Car | eBay

Looks class but it's a Renault automatic that's in the middle of doing a Renault automatic. Still, for a £50 no reserve start, you can't go too far wrong if the price stays decent.

Especially since for those who are committed to old cars, the alternative is to go for something even older to take advantage of the classic exemption. I know it won't happen but I'd love it if Londoners started chopping in their ageing cars for properly old stuff; it would make the streets of the big smoke much more interesting.

To be fair to the chap it sounds like it was already ruined when he bought it.  In fact it's probably closer to original now than it was then, having the correct number of cylinders and the correct means of cooling them.

It'd be interesting to have a race between this and @chaseracer's Dyane...

Agreed. I had missed the bit about having once had a ‘Sud engine etc…

Genuine questions rather than a confrontation (god knows there's enough of those)

1) Do you live in the ULEZ zone?

2) Did you know the plans were laid out and set in motion when Boris Johnson was mayor, and happen to have been implemented during Khan's tenure?

Q1. No

Q2. No

I don't mind whether BlowJo, Khan or even your mother's cousin's neighbour's gardener's mate from the pub implemented the ULEZ plan to be honest; it's a sad day for owners of interesting older cars within the area.

Isn't that what this forum is all about- cars like that?

Nice Vespa by the way. Got a thread on it?

I totally agree it's a ballache and the implementation isn't good, but as an old car nut and also human being, I love the benefits in health that it brings to my family and I'm sure so do the 4 million other people who live within the zone.  So I guess what I'd love to hear rather than the usual "fuck Khan" stuff is how it could be better implemented? Probably one for the many ULEZ threads rather than derailing this one!

The rebuild of the Vespa is chronicalled here. Love your scooter content BTW!

I hear you. I used to cycle through central London 2005-11. The air is horrible. Something had to be done. Same is true in many other places.

I'm lucky in that I don't live in a ULEZ area and am unlikely to. I think a lot of us can actually benefit from those non-compliant cars being sold off from London and elsewhere. So I see it as an opportunity, not a problem.

This is progress. We can cling to the old ways (indeed we are, on an old fashioned forum) but it's not too much to ask that people can breathe clean air.

So, here's a slightly grotty Escort...

May be an image of car and outdoors

... with a radio that's apparently having some sort of crisis and is screaming into the void.

May be an image of car

I assume the radio is screaming because it's met the tit who's selling it. A little gem from the description:

Quote

no offers £550 not £500 would rather scrap it

Yeah, scrap it for £300 less than the asking price for the sake of £50. That'll learn 'em! I'm all for staying firm on price, but he's just sounding like a bit of a twat.

I've not delved into any ULEZ threads on here but will have a look. Regardless of situation though, my opinion of the concept remains unchanged.

As for your Vespa thread, I remember it now. It looks a real honey. Good work on the GTS 250 too - what a barg.

I'm glad you've enjoyed my scooter exploits; I'll have to update the thread soon!
