Are you a street level dealer? Are you handy with a spanner and a Gunson's Ezi-Bleed?

I like the way the ad blurb begins:

"It is with a sad heart I must sell one of my PTs this one I have owned for the last 11 years.."

Much as I quietly, and completely irrationally, quite like PTCs, it's clear this poor chap is unwell.

It would be great to see him on here!

I love how many PTC owners live a wonderful nostalgic world of Americana where the sun always shines, country music on the radio, no jobs have been outsourced to China, and we don't talk about problematic foreign policy, sigh*.

*definitely not like UK MG owners ;-)

One of my dream cars is coming up for sale and I'm having to do a lot of soul-searching about this one. I was trying to remember where and when I first got wind of this chunky old beast, but it must have been at a very young age as it feels like I've always 'known' about it and it's stuck with me for 30 years or whatever. I knew it was at Brian May's place but didn't know any work had been done on it until after he died and all his stuff first went up for sale.

Long before I could understand anything about vernacular postwar British coachbuilding I knew this thing looked 'weird' and that was appealing, and it seemed so mysterious and unknowable and I've just always been low-level obsessed with it. Anyway, it looks like this now

Shame it's been done in such a heinous colour as the body resto actually looks pretty neat and tidy. Shame, also, that it's 'as-is' with no engine, running gear, interior or anything else, despite being a complete car when Brian got it and started the strip-down. I assume all the 'bits' are in there in the spares sale the following day but apart from the bumpers (with reg plates still attached) it's impossible to know what belonged to this car to begin with. The lack of engine does at least means its not really of any valuable to B ISTO CARS people (and it won't get broken up) and therefore might not really be worth very much at all... and it's no reserve. Lots to think about over the next few weeks.

This looks quite smart. Nice colour. Anything wrong with it?

This car is a solid runner and has no major defects that would prevent it from being a run around.

Excellent! That’s what I want to hear about a car. A bizarrely worded sentence to say it’s not got any major faults.

Quote

This car does however…

Uh oh

Quote

…have a power output problem and most likely needs the turbo addressing, however this does not effect the drive ability and it still drives as it should, just has a little less power than this make and model would do.

Right… does not affect the drive ability? Okay… can I read what your local Audi specialist recommended?

Quote

advise new turbo to
be fitted along with new air filter and
oil and filter change and oil feed pipe
to the turbo. Abs and
traction control light on also with a
fault code for the rear right abs
wheel speed sensor, advise new
wheel bearing and abs sensor to be fitted’

…. Ok, um, about that “no major faults”…

Quote

The rear wiper works, as is a common fault on this model.

A bargain then!

Sorry, I can’t figure out how to copy links out of the Gumtree app. Just search the poop emoji and you’ll find it

Interesting back story on it, for sure. The original owner must have been hell bent on resurrecting it considering what happened in the accident. Is it you who started the PH thread about this car?

'Never see something like this again'

You'll probably never see your bollocks again if you pull the front brake too hard.

The local Guardia Civil (police) around here  in my part of Spain still uses a Nissan one of those. Must have mega kilometres on it by now.
