I was responsible for introducing single piece flow in a nagare cell. The solenoid sat in Oil. Customer was AP. (Lockheed?) At one point we did a design for assembly exercise and potentially we found we could reduce the parts count by 50% and reduce The cost by 60%. Don't know how far that got because all the automotive stuff went to Lucas Electronics at Holford Drive in Perry Barr, and I went to Lucas Car Electrical in Burnley. Lucas Control Systems Products was part of the industrial division, not automotive and were experts in proportional solenoids, and positional rotary actuators. The Keighley site had the automotive stuff ripped from them by a click of a computer mouse, and the management bought out the rest and branded it back to NSF controls. (National Switch Factory?)
