And not something one wants to own/use? 1956 Opel Rekord in good condition except that the brakes do not work. https://www.finn.no/car/used/ad.html?finnkode=223834561 I would very happily buy that if I had the money. Driving a car from the 50s isn't difficult, you just have to allow for much longer journey times and stopping distances. Dyslexic Viking

BorniteIdentity
I sold two cars yesterday to regain some sanity and money. Which is why, 18 hours later, I'm already sharking around clapped out old Toyotas like a crack head on giro day. These make good money - a quick tickle of the undercarriage and you're quids in with a reliable motor that will outlive denim. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403012001204?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11021.m43.l3160&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=83b93796a0cc4c73b5b3e5c518bacfcc&bu=43182933369&ut=RU&osub=-1~1&crd=20210723041635&segname=11021&sojTags=ch%3Dch%2Cbu%3Dbu%2Cut%3Dut%2Cosub%3Dosub%2Ccrd%3Dcrd%2Csegname%3Dsegname%2Cchnl%3Dmkcid Isopon, Kringle, wuvvum and 5 others 3

As a child of the 70s, I thought that the Japanese were way behind the cars that were more generic like the Fords, big old Volvos, BLs and so on. As I've got older, my view has completely changed and I think they were under-rated. Why do you think the European and US car industries hit a brick wall in the 70? Rampant complacency. Underdeveloped, under equipped, under whelming, when compared to Japanese offerings. I mean obviously they started small in the moped market before destroying the motorcycle industry, and then moving onto cars. And politically giving them quotas was good for them, because they didn't need to compete on price to get the volume, so could focus on features and quality. barrett
11 hours ago, TheOtherStu said: I got super excited - thinking that it really was a Prince Skyline. As you say, it seems to be a bastardisation made for the export market. For those that don't know, originally the "Skyline" wasn't actually a Nissan thing at all, it was a company called Prince. They made a crappy model in the 1950s but in 1964, someone decided to lengthen it and throw their 2 litre engine in and start racing them. I think both these statements are a little reductive, no? Firstly, it IS a Prince Skyline, not a 'bastardisation'. As far as I know, the export cars where no different to the home-market cars. They were sold in Norway, probaly other Scandinavian countries and probably the Netherlands, and possibly built as CKD kits in Belgium too. As you say, the two-litre cars were alwasy rare and I doubt any were exported, so any European survivor is going to be a cooking 1500cc version - but just the same as the ones sold in Japan and other parts of Asia. Also, saying Prince made a 'crappy model in the 1950s' is a bit harsh. The company had been building cars and heavy & light commercials since the end of WW2 at least. The 1950s models were a significant cut above what most Japanese makers were churning out at the time - certainly better than anything Nissan could come up with. Prince launched the Skyline, the Gloria and the Homy van, and was developing a small fwd city car which became the world-beating 100A Cherry when it was subsumed into Nissan in the late 1960s. Not to be sniffed at, eh? MisterH, Asimo, Dyslexic Viking and 5 others
