I remember an episode in Aviemore where all the car doors were locked as we were going for a wander round the shops, my dad threw his jacket into the boot and closed the lid. With the car keys in the jacket pocket. Mk2 Cortinas didn't have the window sill pop-up buttons of the 70s Fords so gaining entry involved trying to hook the interior handle with a borrowed bit of fencewire pushed in past the door seal. Then, (eventually), removing the back seat (with borrowed tools) and fishing the jacket out with the fencewire. The same thing happened occasionally over the years with later Mk3/4/5 Cortinas but they were easier to get into due to thief-friendly pop-up buttons on the door tops. Sometimes keys from other Fords would open a bootlid or door. We had a 1979 Mk2 Escort van - called 'The Rocket', and one day my younger bro (apprentice at the time) was messing about with the ignition and a teaspoon and he managed to start the van. The teaspoon was left in the ignition thereafter. SteersWithThrottle

cort1977
That cortina estate was on the cortina facebook groups last week. Seems a bit lazy to leave bits in the pictures and state what's not included, how hard is it to lift those wheels out, take the steering wheel off and brush it out a bit to show the true state of the thing? Don't think those steering wheels are that sought after anyway, at least not in that condition.

They were definitely very sought-after in the 1970s! Ford spares couldn't supply a new one, and scrappers couldn't supply a used one. willswitchengage
Rover Sterling mathematical challenge. Calculate how many miles the car has covered and get to drive it home! Quote I have owned this car since 2009 and in this time have put a tad over 50,000 miles on the clock. The log book photo is the vehicle the engine came from and not the actual vehicle for sale. A viewer just asked me why the colour on the V5 was blue.🙄 It has had an engine change 25,000 miles in, which then had a new clutch, water pump and cam belt as an obligatory service of course. So ! These serviceable items have only done 25,000 miles. Obviously being almost 32 years old, it has had some issues, but in my spare time and at various intervals I have replaced nearly ALL of the front suspension parts, with the exception of the front left wheel bearing which seems to be holding up very well. Got the car with 122,000 miles. Changed clocks for zero registered which show the mileage I have done. Done 25,000 miles on original engine, (engine neglected by previous owners) Done 26,000 miles after engine change. in total ( 51,000) Changed engine for a very well looked after 129,000 mile one. Details of this engine I have kept, service book, MOT slips, copy of log book inside page showing engine number and vehicle it was removed from. 25,000 miles on and at least three oil changes it is still running very nicely indeed. The replacement engine has therefore done 155,000 miles. Let’s be fair, in total with the replacement engine the actual car has done a tad over 173,000 miles in total so the interior has to suffer a bit. The replacement engine has done 155,000 The clutch, water pump and cam belt have done 25,000 Wait, let's read further. This is the longest car description on ebay - I started writing this post at 4pm. Quote There is also a light smell of melted butter coming from the rear seat. This does not overpower you, it is there until the air is replaced.( this was caused by 2x 500g blocks I accidentally left on in a bag on the back seat after shopping. I’m still driving it so it’s not that bad. Ever broken a full milk carton in your car ? That’s bad ! This isn’t bad. This was done about three years ago in mid summer🙄 hence why it completely melted. There is even a running commentary of the weather he he writes the advert. Quote It’s raining outside https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154445022438?_trkparms=aid%3D1110010%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.DISCCARDS%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20200818141627%26meid%3Dccfcd3ed2e54458b83a3281034676f8a%26pid%3D101110%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D294180719872%26itm%3D154445022438%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2563228%26algv%3DDiscOrganicBase&_trksid=p2563228.c101110.m1982 Fumbler, Justwatching, BeEP and 13 others 3
