eBay tat volume 3.

Having owned a few CL500s, I really do lust after the 600 V12 for it's sheer capability of bankrupting even the most wealthy of owners.

I’d quite like something like this

but I’ve been trying to figure out which version won’t send me to the poorhouse.

Geartronic seems flaky because they’re sealed for life, but really shouldn’t be.  I’m fine with a manual, so no problem.

Diesel engines are either a Euro3 or Euro4 and while the later one can make more power (163bhp or 185bhp) they are also a bit more troublesome.  Euro3 is more reliable and does a bit more to the gallon too.  It makes 163bhp as well and both versions can be badged the same - 2.4 D5.

Brilliant🙄  How the fuck do you know that you’re buying the right one?

I’m reasonably sure that the best way to tell them apart is that the Euro4 engines have a silver cover on the engine while the Euro3 has a black cover.

Euro4, bad:

Euro3, good:

I’m caught between really enjoying the research, feeling an utter tool for enjoying it and obviously still wondering if changing cars is even a good idea.

But at least if I get run over by a bus tomorrow, you’ll now have this knowledge too👍

What you want is a nice 2.5D - they came with the Audi 5-pot so no common rail woes to worry about.  Don't know if that engine made it into the XC though mind.

I’ve had one of those already in a V70, it was lovely but they’re really difficult to find now and they were never used in the XC or even the 4WD V70

I spend my life researching myself out of a purchase, it's crippling but welcome to the club.

CX GTi Turbo, Series 1 for those seeking a needy disposition.

This one's quite well-known to CX lickers and has had a chequered history over the last few years, but the current seller has managed to correct most of the major deficiencies (especially the fuel tank).

Current price is the lowest I've seen a Turbo of any description pitched at so far - usually it's somewhere north of four bags.

I think another way is that a Euro 4 one will have silver rings around the dials on the dashboard and a Euro 3 one won't

So let’s say you built this with an MX5 donor or whatnot, what registration/year would it end up being?

Always thought the phase 1 cars looked quite nice, better than the blobby facelift they got

Perhaps there is a connection between  “head gasket gone” and “it has been mapped”

It seems to be miserable Escort week on Ebay.

The entire description:

"Collection only"

Current bid: £250

Seller has a few rotten Landies with no number plates (and no VIN plate either I bet) with the same quality* description. Thing is, people will still buy his rotters. I reckon the Escort is ex BT.
