Five grand for one of these Covin kit cars that use either a Volkswagen Fastback engine or (if my memory serves) a 1600 Escort engine?

As genuine Porsches like this seem to be worth more than Amazon’s weekly turnover, this could be a hoot to keep in ropey condition

Random Googling suggests that a few even went as far as having Porsche engines and running gear installed. That must have been a giggle.

A boy round the corner from me has one of those amongst other good stuff like a mk 1 Cortina with a V8.  His brother has a 300ZX with proper 90s mods that I lust after.

I want to share my Fiat Stilo anecdote involving my brother's father in law. We will call him Philip. A very respectable man. Retired teacher.

Philip has no interest in cars. His first child was born when he was 50 and that's when he learned to drive, thinking it would simply be more practical than taking a baby on the bus. He bought a Lada Samara as it was cheap and there was a dealership nearby. When that was rusted out, he returned to the same dealership (which now sold only Fiats) and bought a Tipo. Then when that was dead, he went back and bought a Stilo.

At this point he had two more children, the youngest of which is now my sister in law. One day he was dropping her off at college and when Philip got back into the car from getting her bags out of the boot, he found that the gearknob had gone. Presumably came off in his hand and rolled away in the car park. The two of them couldn't find it.

He went straight to a motor factor and asked for a gearknob. The only one in stock that would fit the car was a skull with flaming hair. He drove the car like that for another seven years or so and then traded it in for a new Punto at the same dealership, still with the skull gearknob. He would've been 70ish when he bought the skull gearknob
