A distracted Google search says that production continued in the Netherlands under another brand, Alphax. However, the Alphax website seems to have been taken over by something Chinese.... If you want me to demonstrate the use of an autobox that suits the car, let me know. I'll let you press the button on top of the gear stick. Maybe so, only one I've driven is a 69 plate Merc E class with the 7 speed box. Didn't like it, didn't see the point, as my left leg works perfectly well, and my brain can choose the correct gear at least as well, and probably change more smoothly if not as fast. Automatic handbrakes are the spawn of the devil also, it's the one thing I hate about my Insignia, and will likely lead to me selling it earlier than I otherwise might have. That needs respraying in bathtub blue, and a numberplate reading "CI 15", for that whole Father Ted vibe. Seller seems to be in Clare, so that's even more serendipitous.
