Yep, my kid sister had that happen to her. She didn't even notice it until I mentioned it to her either (how?!): when she reported it to plod (she and her husband were in a pub at the time), they told her she couldn't drive the car until it had the correct plates restored. Her husband quickly disavowed plod of that idea and invited them to follow them to Halfords via home to pick up the V5, but oddly enough they declined.
