A difficult one for the vendor because such a clear but wrong statement could result in all kinds of problems for the vendor. You hear it equally of fire engines and recovery vehicles - again both wrong unless you are an actual Fire Brigade or running a full time recovery business? Had tried contacting him several times previously to no avail and ended up getting something else. Shame as in truth it was ideal for what I wanted and half the mileage of that one. Seller tried the old one been offered more than the price and the buyer is on his way type nonsense.... Went unsold for weeks on end but the love was lost then. wuvvum
With recovery vehicles, it doesn't necessarily have to be a business, but the truck does need to be used solely for recovering broken down vehicles, and the exemption is only valid for spec lift trucks, not flatbeds. The Volvo XC90 that is currently for sale would be illegal if that's true: "Volvo's Twin Engine combines an internal combustion engine that drives the front wheels with an electric motor that drives the rear wheels." "Depending on the driver-selected drive mode and available electric energy, the two drive systems can be used either individually or in parallel." https://www.volvocars.com/lb/support/manuals/xc90-twin-engine/2018w46/hybrid-information/hybrid-information/drive-systems spartacus

As noted above there were one or two magazine feature cars with twin engines. It's a difficult question as well as a serious one. If you want to try and wade through the Construction and Use Regulations 2017, be my guest. Prepare lots of coffee, and take lots of notes... The condensed version is, any vehicle like this will have to pass SVA to be legally used on the road. The V5 will have to reflect this. With this done, you can then get valid insurance. The vehicle shown is registered as a 1.1 and therefore has not been through the SVA process, and cannot be legally driven on public roads, as apart from anything else the insurance wouldn't be valid. 4 hours ago, SiC said: The Volvo XC90 that is currently for sale would be illegal if that's true: "Volvo's Twin Engine combines an internal combustion engine that drives the front wheels with an electric motor that drives the rear wheels." I imagine the type approval regime that Ford/Volvo had to go through to get this rubber stamped is somewhat more rigorous than an SVA inspection. If your XC90 goes all skynet and kills you/third parties then Ford/Volvo will ultimately be liable, if it's a system failure. If your home-made and unapproved Franken-Citroen decides that one engine needs to be in first gear and the other in reverse, ripping the car in half and killing/injuring/embarrassing you/third parties, you'll be the one residing at Her Majesty's pleasure. Assuming you survive. strangeangel
