Apart from the banded steel wheels, which woukd scare me shitless, and the roof rack, which needs to be removed and only fitted when you need to transport ladders or something,  and that it needs a new gearbox, that is a Thing of beauty.

Papped by me at least 3 times, a local car.

My Grandad had an Escort Sapphire, in dark blue. Was it a dealer special? I think his was from John Grose Ipswich. It was utterly miserable compared to his glorious early Sierra Ghia it replaced.

Although it seems to have sold on eBay a fortnight ago for £770 in exactly the same MOT-less state, which makes the £1750 Gumtree asking price a bit salty

In world of driveway car flippers the days of cheap old cars are long dead. Fucking thing will be RIPE.

I believe they were actually a proper special edition. My dad had one.

This advert is pretty much the archetype of the opportunist and incompetent bullshit that goes for classic/retro car sales these days. Some old biddy's vehicle gets hoovered up by somebody who owns an iPhone camera, a pressure washer and a vaguely tidy workshop and has read the first line of the original sales invoice.

Quote

The vehicle was originally ordered on the 3rd March 1990 by a serving Sargent in the British Army who was based at RAF Laarburch in Germany.

Having ordered the vehicle it was first registered on 31st December 1990 and delivered through Volvos "Cruise and Collect" scheme that was in operation at the time in collaboration with Stena Line.

Built to English Specification and registered in the UK from new, the original cost of this lovely example was in excess of £8,800 Sterling.

Recently completed a full detail, the Signal Red paint gleams like it did originally following a full machine polish.

The unmarked interior is remains ready for the next owner to enjoy, with no stains. The black dash looks elegant and fresh with all dials almost as new condition.

The engine bay and its components appear to have been kept in equally good condition over the years and show very little wear.

A strong tow bar has been professionally fitted to the vehicle with electric hook up at some point in its life.

The vehicle is also fitted with a Volvo dog guard between the rear headrests which can be easily removed if not required.

Having covered just under 217,000 miles which we assume to be a high degree of motorway miles by the original owner. The vehicle drives fantastically and pulls as it should through each gear.

There is some minor rust on both the rear arches and bottom lip of the tailgate however this doesn't detract from the glorious overall condition of this 28 year old Swedish powerhouse.

viewing can be accommodated in a well lit and socially distanced environment within its current home just outside Ipswich.

Thanks

This can be condensed to the more succinct 'This is a rusty, high mileage vehicle that I have cleaned'.
