Ah...

Bit confusing this, the listing is for three cars, and it's not clear which one this charming engine bay belongs to. Still, £1000 for three Wartburgs... that'll keep you out of the pub for a while!

These are owned by an old workmate of mine, he bought a giffers house about 3 years ago and the chap left the cars there. Two are totally beyond repair. The third is actually quite nice, he asked me to come and see if I could get it running. After a bit of fettling got it running ok off an external tank, my god it was smoky to start off with! Just needed a new fuel pump from what I remember.

There was a tasty Wartburg camper type thing too (can be seen in the background) - that just needed a fuel pump too, was the same type of engine as the others. Must be a weak point on these.

Sounds like a decent project for the asking if you've got room!

Agreed, I think most people will look at the advert and be very confused as to what exactly is being offered. Think they were originally up for £1800, the guy knows nothing about cars and just wants them gone so I suspect an offer of even less than £1k would take them. Thankfully I have no room at the inn for them or I might be tempted!

I saw the van in the background and wondered about that... do you know if it's being sold separately?

Some proper tat in that back garden.

Yeah, it is a bit confusing. I think that is an earlier version of the ad I posted. It does seem that you get the two rotters with the estate, and that tidy looking G-reg saloon is available separately - again, doesn't look bad value at a grand.

That's a Barkas, although the powertrain is the same as the Wartburg; more info please.

A Tipo? With MOT? For less than £400? Inexplicably shot up to nearly a grand. Bizarre.

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202009033286523?advertising-location=at_cars&is-quick-search=TRUE&postcode=cv100nr&model=TIPO&sort=price-asc&page=1&make=FIAT&include-delivery-option=on&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&advertClassification=standard

Be cautious though... its most recent MOT suggests tinworm is about to be an issue. "General underbody corrosion" and something about a holed rear panel potentially doesn't bode well.

These 3.2 ones seem a bit less 'grenady' than the 4.5 ones.

Have to say, it's extremely tempting.

Went off the road three years ago with power steering problems. I bet it's absolutely fucked underneat now (more's the pity) but £2250 ono is stilla  fair price as if the engine can live on it'd do someone.

Not sure about FWD but from what I've managed to glean through epic procrastination this afternoon, the engine is under the drivers seat on all of these French "Standards".  The double deckers seem to have great shite credentials in other respects too, only about 25 built and none lasted a full decade in service.

Interestingly theres an equally rubbish PGR midibus in the same auction as well. They're clearly not expecting much interest in either of them with those reserve prices, which would of course be a fraction of what's required to get them actually roadworthy again.

Looks like both of these sold - the double decker for precisely half of what the single deck went for, weirdly. I’ve been reading up on these things, they both comically missed the mark but in different ways. I must share my discoveries on the Bus Shite thread soon.
