I tried repeatedly - over the course of about three weeks - to buy that car at the end of last year. The seller was a friend of a friend, but he just kept giving me bullshit about “not sure I wanna sell it m7” and “got someone else interested”.

Despite having laid some serious pipe into one of my friends over the course of several months, he wasn’t helping me out.

I now suspect he knew it was pretty ripe and didn’t want to sell it to someone he knew. Fair enough I guess, but I wish he’d just said!

Hope someone here takes it on - but looks like it’ll need revitalising and a tickled undercarriage.

About a decade or more ago Heralds were 'cool' (they may still be I am completely out of touch). This looks like it was owned by some hip owner who tired of it.

Location wd be good for one of those missing abduction series you see on TV.

What does 'laying some serious pipe' into someone mean? I can imagine it in a '90's lad mag' context e.g. "I'd lay some serious pipe into that Philippa Forester/Gail Porter etc" but I suspect that's not the case here.

Thank God you asked the question, as was having exactly the same thoughts :)

A genuine 12/50!  This is the model that wore my L plates all those years ago, except ours had been resprayed Valencia Blue.  Actually I like it in the pink, so much so that if I had money I'd be all over this.

I suspect that means exactly what others are thinking, that the phrase is a reference to horizontal jogging....

It must be a Dahnn Sarff thing , the toffs understand cockney rhyming slang now so it's evolved into , what,  if you're not in the know

Last year I went to a car show in manchester , I was talking to a guy with a herald convertible which looked in similar condition , I assumed he'd trailered it there as the before with the intention of returning next year with the after.

He'd gaffer taped the worst bits of bodywork, only after talking to him for a few minutes I realised he'd driven it there, cost him £100 to insure it , when I asked about MOT  he just said it doesn't need MOT or tax and laughed, cheap motoring.

He seemed to miss the part about it having to be roadworthy which it most definitely wasn't

A Herald sits on a proper chassis, so ratty bodywork is only a problem if it affects mounting/hinge points.  The bonnet is a huge heavy item so that end is quite significant; but panel edges, for example, are much less serious than they might be on unitary-construction cars.  It's easy for a Herald to look rough, yes; but it's a fair bit easier to fix than, say, a Morris 1100 or Ford Escort.

I suspect he’s not the only one who thinks like that unfortunately . The herald doesn’t actually look too bad (although I haven’t seen underneath ). My dad Said he saved up enough money to move house by working overtime welding outriggers onto triumph heralds in the early 70’s.

Yep, seen it, despite the ad’s incorrect location on RR.

Very nice car, lovely colour combo and low miles. The price, however, is more than I am prepared to pay and the seller is in Lancashire, the other side of the country from me. If he puts a new MoT on it and drops the price to sub £2.5k, I’ll probably give him a call.

Its quite hard to find one with < 100k which I guess is why its more money

Fair point but I’m not so bothered about mileage. I bought a low miles (57k) FSH W219 CLS a couple of years ago and had one problem after another.

I thought it was synonymous with dropping the kids off at the pool, or stocking the lake with brown trout?

£195 no reserve so far, looks GR9....but has those immortal words in the listing:

Quote

It only has a few weeks of MOT left but I can’t see why it wouldn’t pass its next MOT

Hmmm.... not only but also:

Quote
he logbook states “this vehicle has been salvaged because the estimated cost of commercial repair was more than the value of the vehicle”.
This was with a previous owner but I don’t  know what work it was referring to

So it's a catagory N or S or summert... not that it matters at this price point I suppose....MoT history looks good.
