I’ve just whatsapped my mechanic friend asking if he knows weak spots. Anyone know if this engine is the same as in my 1994 e class or is it a later v6? I don’t think the wheels are original but they don’t look bad. 140’s never had the V6 , just the traditional in-line 6, V8 and V12. spike60 and richardmorris 1

It's a high-spec JTD with cruise and climate (like the one I had which went to Bramz then Bo11ox and I believe is still in the fold somewhere), but it's an estate so with added junk-carrying ability. Seems like an honest seller too. Only thing putting me off is the distance. That and the fact that it may need rear bushes, which I remember Bo11ox saying were a twat of a job. Those bushes are a fairly twattish job, but I did buy the proper tool for doing em, if you buy this and want to have a go at it I'll chuck it in the post to you wuvvum, BorniteIdentity and Kringle
willswitchengage
This is interesting. A manual with dashboard lights that tell you if you're in first gear, second, neutral, reverse or 'D' gear! Mr_Bo11ox
I think those are all autos from the factory but a few have been converted with a box from a Legacy or something, the dash display must be a throwback to its days as an auto Schaefft and wuvvum

Especially the steering wheel which looks vile with all the yellow rubbed off. Mine was just as clean inside after nineteen years' use as the day I bought it. The double deckers seem to have great shite credentials in other respects too, only about 25 built and none lasted a full decade in service. Well you do, if you have a penis. I remember when mk1 TTs were nearly new and Banhams appeared on the scene. I guess at that moment in time, they were way cheaper than the real thing, although turning your rotten Metro into a a rip-off plastic, fake TT would had to have been one hell of a commitment. Edit: Just found this post from 2004. Bet that would have half the price of a TT at the time. Would still look gopping though. face

I've owned five AS-type cars overs the years, all in perfectly good condition, paying £300 to £800. I last bought a car in 2013. Bored of it now but surfing this thread and ebay it seems nigh on impossible to buy anything comparable without going well into four figures. I assume that now the roads are full of identical and anonymous SUVs the retro car has become 'cool' again if anything just to be something different, and obviously they become in shorter supply every year. The super-high pre-2001 road tax is a deterrent though.

Manual conversion will probably last longer than the the original auto, which is known to be fragile and has been known to go bang after as little as 50,000 miles. Asimo
That Artcurial auction linked to above (thanks mk2Craig) with the the Berliet busses has some fabulous stuff, with what seem to be low estimates for some interesting cars, and much higher estimates for run-of the mill tat like Triumph Spitfires and Landrovers. Like this Mathis-Ford of 1936, estimated at €2000 - €5000. An original '30s V8 for 5 grand?
