Very expensive, yet worth every penny. Probably still (along with an RG500 in 'Pepsi' colours) the best looking bike of all time.

A couple of years ago a cool Frenchman in chino's, shades etc bumbled and popped past us in the traffic in Paris on one of these. He wasn't as gung-ho as the scooter riders!

In the late 80s I came very close to buying a RD500 but when I went to see it it'd been painted blue with an aerosol , badly so I left it .

I can well remember trying to wrestle one of those round bends and it fighting me all the way. Handling was fucking evil. I found the 500 Mach3 even more evil though. No power at all up to a certain point, then it all came in at once with a bang. Fun in a straight line, but if your leant over mid corner, all hell is let loose. Frame felt like it was made from rubber and the brakes from wood. The dance of defiance was a regular and scary experience.

Strangely though, I nearly died and got lifelong / life changing injuries from a little KH250, but copious amounts of alcohol were involved. Sounds ludicrous in this day and age I know but it was 1976. 12th October to be exact.

Lovely looking things, but I still think the 916 is probably the most gorgeous looking bike ever made.

Right, here's the absolute yard stick of shite.  There are no worse commercial vehicles than these.

'Power steering'

Thank fuck something's got power then, as I can assure you it's not that wheezy, hopeless, fuel slurping piece of absolute shit 4 pot engine. It's actually impossible to describe how awful these things are, honestly, two hours in one is enough, never mind the 2 pissing weeks I had to endure. If you're not at the petrol station filling the twatting things up with diesel, you're sat there with about 300 miles of traffic behind you as you try and get some speed up, 17 miles after you pulled off from the roundabout, or broken down waiting to be rescued.
