Sanderos remain remarkable value. Here is a 2018 lightly facelifted Access (with the newer 1 litre engine) - less than 1,000 miles and £5.5k.

If I was aged 60, there could be a car to 'see me though'

A Cossie one would generate loads of interest! I'd be one subscriber for you.

The other thing that Rob of Salvage Rebuilds has highlighted is the price some cars fetch at auction. Some are sold at well over retail price, and with the cost of parts and labour to add to repairing the damage.

Is this the YouTube phenomena at work? Someone see's a few of these videos and thinks "I can do that", as do others, and bidding takes off.

Maybe he has had a few  that have had issues after he has sold them, but easy to see what he has done so you go in eyes wide open.

And where can I find Kiltox's videos?

Thank you!!!! A subscriber woo hoo. Yes I'd love to do it, just got 55 billion other things to do first I'm afraid.

I agree you're spot on about the state of the salvage game and good to see he's spotted it also.

A lot of it derives sadly from the internet experts* who know just how much something should cost to fix and how much time it should take. This sadly filters down and everyone's an expert. I had it with my garage all the time, a customer would come down with their "budget" and expected to be walking away with a Racing Green level of paint job from less than what it would cost from one of those cowboy "smart" repairers. I had one boy come down and literally follow me all the way around the car telling me exactly how long it would take to do each job "that's ten minutes to rub down" "you won't need much paint on that" etc etc, telling me what it should cost.

Had another turn up with the most rotten RS Turbo I've ever seen under the body kit, actually looked OK on top but I've owned and broken loads of them and know they rot, well, everywhere! There was literally nothing left, nothing to weld to but he was adamant he wanted it restored. I quoted him £2k for the paint plus welding costs. He told me he had a "budget" of £1200 all in and i HAD to work to that, including welding and he wanted a colour, well, tone change. Explaining the complications in doing this the cost was to increase again and I didn't think it was the right thing to do, if he started with a better shell it would save a lot of money. He said he'd give me until the end of the day to accept his offer and then he'd drop the price by £100 a day, take it or leave it, he'd checked on the owners forum and £1200 to respray a car was too high, someone knew a bloke who could do it for £500. I'll leave it thanks, best take it to him. Scrapped it about 3 months later after he stripped it to a shell and found out just how bad it was.

Joe Public generally have no idea how much work goes into a good paint job and for me at least it was constantly fighting a losing battle with people who could remember getting a full celly paint job on their dads Cortina in 1983 for £200 so it can't have gone up much since then etc etc.

I watch these resto programs now and wonder if we just missed the right time to be in the game as people with restos seem to accept that the paint job is probably going to be the biggest part of their budget. Shame I never found anyone like that!!!

There are two exterior pictures of this LDV. This one...

...and this one, which is possibly some sort of glory hole.

You can fuck right off.

I've got 4 years to go and I'd rather spend that £5k at Dignitas on my 60th birthday.

@vaughant I'm lucky to know a great painter, and he has sorted out my race bikes, road bikes and Van's over the last 10 years. He does all sorts of stuff, from a bike side panel to full blown colour change on Ferraris. He is not cheap, but you get what you pay for (even at mates rates).

He was doing some work on this last week.
