oh i do love a "land lobster"

a model that BMC should never, ever had built.

a run of 3 years and 9000=odd cars, it made no sense at all, even when the development work started on it, the 3-litre class of cars was dying on its arse, and it took them longer to get the car production ready, so when it went on sale, no one wanted them!

i like them though, i'd need a bloody big garage to keep it in mind :-(

s-l1600.jpg

it looks lopsided in the pics, so i wonder what horrors it has with the hydrolastic, self levelling (or not, in this case) suspension?

Quite a late one with a K reg there. I had one - the big bugbear was the engine - a reworked C-series - not very happy to rev so not as drivable as it should have been.

I think these were ready for sale by about 1964 but were delayed.

And the badge - I'd guess it was George Harriman and the BMC board who kept the Austin badge for sentimental reasons. Wd have been better prestige-wise as a Wolseley or even a Riley.

There was a Rover V8 prototype in the Longbridge car pool in the late 60's which I understand was quite popular as well as Wolseley and Vanden Plas prototypes.

But as a nice old collectors car to use occasionally an interesting buy. Very nicely finished inside. These must have had some time and love spent on them at the factory as Longbridge's prestige car. The veneers are very nice. Some had leather seats.

Not expensive these days in comparison to other stuff. Even looks like it has the original carpets.

With a better engine these could have been real upper-crust go-cart. I recall the handling was pretty good. Interesting engineering too.

Dear old crazy BMC - they did leave us with some amazing stuff!

Good luck with getting hold of spares. If the CX was anything to go by, the C6 will be just as difficult; with only 1200 RHD cars built, maybe even more so.

If you are still looking for another cheap obscure barge, why not this Olds 88? Itll definitely last longer than the Citroen...

He says he's rat looked it.

I think he means a rat might have looked at it.

And the rat probably said

"why have you put shit stickers on it you spam handed shit-cleft?"

I've got a week off, nothing to do and a few quid in my pocket after selling a couple of cars - a dangerous combination.  Here's some local Gumtree shit I've been considering to keep me occupied:

$_86.JPG

61 plate Benz for £500!  Engine is knocking though and owner sounds sick of it.  Would make a snazzy garden shed, I suppose.

$_86.JPG

MX5 NC for £800... again, engine knocking.  Some research suggests this isn't economically viable even if you got it for nowt.

$_86.JPG

£1000!  Actually, this looks a pretty sound buy to be honest.  But I'm not that bored, yet.  It's only Monday though.

Panels for the E3 might be difficult, but I think BMW Mobile Tradition shouldn't have a problem supplying engine and other mechanical bits.

The axle and prop are worth £150. I'd leave the rest there.

I'm sure that's my cat moonlighting.  I'll look for a photo and add it later maybe.

Hmm too many cats, don't know how to remove the top one!
