Ford once had a word for base model.

Consul.

This one has more inner wing than normal.

Of course it isn't cheap at €4000 but I'd rather this than any Escort.

Lush!

Consul was not a base level, though - Ford just decided to keep the name on its 4 cylinder family cars after planning the MkIII Zephyr range with a Zephyr 4 instead of the Consul.   They renamed the last Mk2 Consuls as Consul 375 in readiness for the Consul Classic which was known as simply Consul 315 in many markets.   As each model emerged - Corsair, Capri, Cortina, they were prefixed Consul accordingly.

They all had de Luxe or GT versions, though, and even the Mk2 Consul had a De Luxe version which equipped it almost to Zodiac levels.

The Consul prefix became redundant once the Cortina in particular had established itself and the cars were simply known by their other model names.

I think 'Marvin'sMom' previously posted this brown-tastic Maestro City X. It was on for £4,995 but is now on for a more realistic £2,995. Has the 'cla**ic car' bubble burst?

Don't think the classic bubble has burst just yet, but, there were never going to be many people prepared to pay £5k for a Maestro, unless it's an MG turbo.
